side dish ... are so
elegantly prepared
and quite tasty.
To be sure, it is a
Chinese restaurant
... A very good one
... But if you want
chop suey or the
like, you'll have to
go elsewhere ... No ice cream or sher-
bet, either ... Shangri-La has its own
character ... and an endless authentici-
tY.
ONE OF THE most popular
restaurant gents in recent years, Gary
Tringali, may soon be opening a place
on the Northwest area.
He had Joey's On Jefferson from
1987 until 1990 ... and in the short
time, built it into a celebrity show-
place with good food in an entertain-
ing surrounding ... Gary cooked his
specialty for Tony Bennett, who "sang
for his supper" to Joey's' awed cus-
tomers Shrimp Joey, butterflied
shrimp sauteed in a white lemon Joey
sauce.
It was also a regular terpsi hang-out
for dance teachers who came to do
off-duty fancy foot steps.
The husband of Joanie Adell,
daughter of the late Bobby Adell,
Gary's restaurant is slated to bring a
new concept in its fun-dining theme.

in southeastern Michigan, with three
favorite places to eat being asked for.

Awareness Month certificates were
given to three local business: Mei Ling
Vegetarian Chinese (West Bloomfield),
Inn Season Cafe (Royal Oak), and
Seva (Ann Arbor)."
(Mei Ling has since been sold and
will reopen as a Thai restaurant.)
"Honorable mentions went to
