Tees Up
Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz will launch
the first of Adat Shalom Synagogue's
lunch-and-learn sessions of the sea-
son Thursday, Oct. 11.
A noon lunch and learn will exam-
ine the weekly Torah portion through
the Conservative movement's new
commentary, Eitz Chaim: The Tree of
Life. Seminars at 8 p.m. the same day
will expand the discussion as illustrat-
ed in contemporary
literature.

theme is "The
Meaning and
Purpose of Our
Lives," as illustrated
in Bereshit and in
Mitch Albom's
Rabbi Yoskowitz Tuesdays With Morrie
and David Noel
Freedman's The Nine Commandments.
At noon Oct. 18, Rabbi Yoskowirz
will reflect on "the Nature of Evil"
through Parshat Noah and at 8 p.m. Jan
T Gross' Neighbors, the Destruction of
the Jewish Community ofJedwabne,
Poland and Ian Kershaw's Hitler: 1889-
1936 Hubris.
The final sessions will take place on
Tuesday, Oct. 23, with a look at "Why
Israel, the Land, is Important to the
Jewish People." The parsha of the week,
Lech Lecha, will be the focus. In the
evening, the group will look at Bruce
Feiler's Walking the Bible — A Journey
by Land Through the Five Books of Moses
and The Bible Unearthed by Israel
Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silberman.
There is a S10 charge for each lunch
and learn. There is no charge for the

A charity golf outing will be sponsored
by Congregation Shir Tikvah of Troy at
the Devils Ridge Golf Club, 3700
Metamora Road in Oxford, on
Thursday, Oct. 11.
The outing will raise funds for the
general fund of Shir Tikvah. In addi-
tion, proceeds from a 50/50 raffle will
go to the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations' 9-11 Disaster Fund.
The cost for the event is $125, which
includes lunch, driving range practice,
18 holes of golf, a reception and dinner.
Reception and dinner only are $25.
Foursomes are welcome, or the organiz-
ers will match individuals with a group.

with registration and driving range prac-
tice. There will be a shotgun start and
lunch on the course at noon followed
by reception and dinner at 6 p.m.

Reach Out To Kids
Congregation Beth Shalom and and
the Jewish Community Center in Oak
Park will co-sponsor a class involving
music, movement and storytelling for
children 18 months to 3 years and their
parents/caregivers.
The seven-week class will feature
puppeteer Maureen Schiffman and her
puppet Coco. The one-hour class will
begin 10:30 a.m. Nov. 1 and will be
held at Congregation Beth Shalom.
The community is invited. Cost of the
class is S55 for Beth Shalom/JCC
members and $75 for non-members.

Seniors Host
David Syme
Pianist David Syme will be guest artist
at the 15th annual Intercongregational
Senior Luncheon at noon Wednesday,
Oct. 17, at Temple Beth El.
Syme has made nine solo appearances
with the Detroit Symphony and per-
formed in concert in Lincoln and
Kennedy centers as well as major halls
nationwide.
The luncheon
brings together area
seniors from Reform,
Conservative,
Traditional and
Orthodox congrega-
tions. The event is
hosted each year by
one of the group's
member congrega-
tions: Adat Shalom,
David Syme
Beth Ahm, Temple
Beth El, Beth Shalom,
B'nai David, B'nai Moshe, Temple
Emanu-El and Shaarey Zedek.
Cost of the luncheon is $15 for mem-
bers of congregational senior groups and
S16 for guests. Reservations may be
