A TRUE STORY FROM I00 YEARS OF JEWISH NATIONAL FUND HISTORY

"The police said I was
breaking the law.
I said I was just trying
to help Israel."

Hesh Blau

17%.1F Contributor since 1947

The year is 1947. Jackie Robinson
goes hitless in his major league
debut. The transistor is invented.
The UN General Assembly
partitions Palestine between
Arabs and Jews. And Hesh Blau
is arrested, simply for helping
raise funds for Israel in the
New York subway.

There he was, a 12-year-old boy, Jewish National
Fund Blue Box in hand, wending his way through
the subway cars asking people to participate in
making the State of Israel become a reality. Suddenly,
he was arrested and charged with panhandling, yet
he was only doing his small part to help make the
Zionist dream come true.

water will soon be halted; it is just too hazardous to
continue. Farmers face catastrophic water-quota cuts
of up to 70%. Painful prohibitions on water use in the
towns, cities and industrial plants are just a matter of
time — a short time.

The JNF Blue Box is still an important symbol of the
efforts and sacrifices of many. But pushkes are no
longer a major source of funds. It takes more for JNF
to move forward on critical reservoir expansion, water
recycling and conservation designed to keep Israel
economically and politically strong.

That's why a sincere "thank you" is due to Hesh Blau
and the hundreds of thousands of American Jews like
him who know that every contribution counts and
who continue to help JNF provide real hope for the
people and land of Israel.

Today, the Jewish people's commitment to Israel is
being tested as the land faces yet another dangerous
reality: a desperate need for water.

Please, continue the job they started by joining them
with your generous contribution today.

Israel's worst drought in 100 years continues to ravage
the land. Pumping from Israel's major sources of fresh

Only with your help can JNF fulfill the "Together, We
