Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Joel Michael Adelsberg became a bar
mitzvah at Adat Shalom Synagogue on
Saturday, Sept. 1. He is the son of
Phyllis and Dr. David Adelsberg and
the brother of Evan.
Proud grandparents
are Nettie Adelsberg
and Dena Neider. He
is also the grandson
of the late Morris
Adelsberg.
An honor student
at Warner Middle
School in
Farmington Hills, Joel is an avid reader
and is interested in computers and
video games. His mitzvah project
included volunteering for Meals on
Wheels and the Jewish Association for
Residential Care and visiting residents
at a Bloomfield Hills nursing home.

Miriam Blake will be called to the Torah
as a bat mitzvah on Saturday, Sept. 8, at
Congregation Beth Shalom. Rabbi
David Nelson and Cantor Samuel
Greenbaum will lead
services. Miriam is the
daughter of proud
parents David Blake
and Andrea Blake, sis-
ter of Raphael and
Ari. Loving grandpar-
ents are Jack and Rose
Dendel of Hopkins,
Mich., Marvin Blake
of Southfield and Irving and Mary
Kempner of Tucson, Ariz.
Miriam is an eighth-grade honor stu-
dent and student council representative
at Norup Middle School in Oak Park.
Her favorite activities include playing ice
hockey for the Birmingham Rangers,
being a soccer goalie with the Berkley
Premier Storm and playing rugby for the
Norup Hawks. She is also an enthusias-
tic skate boarder, skier, in-line skater and
tennis player. She enjoys playing the
flute in the Norup band. Her most
meaningful mitzvah project involved
regular partnering with a senior resident
at Coville Apartments in Southfield.

Barnet Samuel Anixt Gold (Baruch
Shmuel) of Detroit will be bar mitz-
vah at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
on Saturday, Sept. 8. Participating in
the ceremony will be his parents,
Rochelle Anixt and Robert S. Gold,
and brother Anton I. Gold. Proud
grandparent is Anna Katz Brenner of
New York City.
Barnet is a student at Detroit
Country Day School in Beverly Hills.
He is active in tournament tennis,

advanced percussion
band, sketching and
design and vocal
performance.
His mitzvah proj-
ect with Children's
Hospital of
Michigan, Child
Life Project, pro-
vides gently used clothes and books,
films for teens, fancy Band-Aids and
stickers, plus his on-going collection
of vintage cars and other magazines,
to children receiving treatment and
their families. Barnet hopes to contin-
ue this community service through
high school. "Bag It for Barnet" is a
project he created with Children's
Hospital of Michigan.

Benjamin Meyer Golsky will celebrate
his bar mitzvah at Mat Shalom
Synagogue on Saturday, Sept. 8. He is
the son of Francie
and Marc Golsky and
brother of Amanda.

are grandparents
Phyllis and Leonard
Mondrow, Florence
and Bernard Golsky
and proud great-
grandmother Anne
Mondrow.
Ben is an honor student at Dunckel
Middle School in Farmington Hills.
He enjoys bowling, baseball, golf,
computers and video games. For his
mitzvah project, he volunteered at the
Applebaum Life and Family Center in
West Bloomfield, working with young
children.

Evan Ross Goodman will become a
bar mitzvah at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek on Saturday, Sept. 8.
Participating in the ceremony will be
parents Harriet and
Walter Goodman, sis-
ter Danielle and
brother Zachary.
Proud grandparents
are Eleanore
Sugarman and Helen
and Ralph Goodman.
He is also the grand-
son of the late Dr.
Marcus H. Sugarman.
Evan is an honor student at
Warner Middle School in Farmington
Hills. He is interested in golf, tennis
and baseball. His most meaningful
mitzvah projects were helping at the
Danto Family Healthcare Center in
West Bloomfield and working at
Camp Berman at the Shaarey Zedek
Laker Complex in West Bloomfield.

Justin Adam Kantz (Israel) will be bar
mitzvah at Temple Beth El on Friday,
Sept. 7. Participating in the ceremony
will be his parents, Ms. Tammy Kantz
and Mr. Mark Kantz,
and sisters Amanda
Rachel and Stephanie
Jordan. Proud grand-
parents are Fay and
Amos Knoll of
Bloomfield Hills.
Proud great-grand-
mother is Maria
Slovik of Brooklyn.
Justin is a student
at East Hills Middle School in
Bloomfield Hills. His interests include
basketball and skateboarding. He loves
music and art. Justin's mitzvah project
included a trip to Yad Ezra's Oak Park
warehouse to help pack boxes of food
for the less fortunate.

Rebecca Lynn Mansfield will become
a bat mitzvah at Temple Israel on
Friday, Sept. 7. She is the daughter of
Maureen and Michael Mansfield.
Happy grandparents are Elenore and
Jack Mansfield and
Debbie and Harold
Weisserman.
An East Middle
School student in
Farmington Hills,
Rebecca enjoys soft-
ball, travel and the
computer. Donating
to a shelter for
abused women and
children was her most meaningful
mitzvah project.

Leiana Monkman became a bat mitz-
vah on Friday, Aug. 31, at Temple
Emanu-El. She is the daughter of John
and Ilene Monkman and sister of
Daniel and Marisa. Her grandparents
are Don and Mary
Monkman and the
late Sam and Mary
Stoller. Sharing her
simcha was her aunt
Mitzi Barnett.
Leiana is an
honor student at
Norup Middle
School in Oak Park.
She enjoys dancing, singing and music
and was in a local production of the
young Americans as well as a school
production of Grease. She loves read-
ing, has been in a book club for three
years, and enjoys swimming, comput-
ers, logic puzzles and doing things
with family and friends.
Leiana has been at the temple since
kindergarten and plans to attend its

high school program. For her mitzvah
project, she volunteered at the Camp
of the Arts for three weeks and helped
out with temple activities.

Samantha Suzanne Morton will cele-
brate her bat mitzvah on Saturday, Sept.
8, at Temple Israel. She is the daughter
of Jeff and Nancy Morton and Krista
Morton. Excited grandparents are
Gerald and Elaine
Morton and 'Tina and
Nick Ristich. Proud
great-grandparents are
Anna and Harry
Korman and Ida
Rudack. She is also
the grandchild of the
late Suzanne Korman
Morton.
Attending Walnut Creek Middle
School in West Bloomfield, Samantha
likes dance, cheerleading, kickboxing
and fast cars. She found it particularly
meaningful to raise funds for St. Vincent
Sarah Fisher CARE group to benefit
children's education.

Rebecca Anne Plaine of West
Bloomfield will become a bat mitzvah
at Congregation B'nai Moshe on
Saturday, Sept. 8. She is the daughter of
Sue and Ron Plaine and sister of
Stephanie. Sharing in their simcha are
grandparents Macey Plaine and Roz
and Mickey
Goloskov. She is also
the grandchild of the
late Irene and Al
Matheson.
Rebecca is in the
eighth grade at
Abbott Middle
School in West
Bloomfield. She
enjoys playing soccer, tennis and cheer-
leading, working with the computer
and spending summers at Camp Sea
Gull in Charlevoix. Her most meaning-
ful mitzvah project was volunteering at
Yad Ezra in Oak Park.

Robert Norris Rosenbaum will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah at
Temple Israel on Friday, Sept. 7. He
is the son of Linda and Frank
Rosenbaum and brother of Michelle.
Sharing in the simcha are grandpar-
ents Leah and
Robert Mendelsohn
and Norris
Rosenbaum. He is
also the grandson of
the late Elinor
Rosenbaum.
