Cindy E. Friedman, Hillel class of 1984,
returns to Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit
in Farmington Hills
as interim head of
Judaic studies (K-5).
Friedman earned a
bachelor's degree
from the University
of Michigan and a
master's degree from
the William
Cindy Friedman Davidson School of
Education at the
Jewish Theological
Seminary of America. She served as pro-
gram director at Camp Ramah in
Canada and as the assistant director of
Camp Ramah in the Berkshires.
Friedman taught at the Abraham
Heschel Day School in New York City.
Prior to moving to New York, Friedman
spent a year at Hillel Day School as a
programming associate and administra-
tive assistant.
Amy Cutler returns to the school as

Robert H. Orley of Franklin was elected
president of Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington
Hills at a recent board
of directors meeting.
Orley has been a
member of Hillel's
board and executive
committee for many
years. He has served
on a number of com-
mittees for the Jewish
Federation of
Robert Orley
Metropolitan Detroit
as well as on the
United Jewish Communities Young
Leadership Cabinet.
The following were elected to the exec-
utive committee: Gary Shiffman and
Terri Farber Roth, vice presidents; Linda
Baruch, treasurer; Scott Eisenberg, secre-
tary; Fred Blechman, immediate past
president.
The following were re-elected to the
board of directors: Nancy Adler, Stacy
Brodsky, Lori Garon, Ken Goss, Denise
Kalt, Dr. Barbara Kappy, Shari Kaufman,
Rabbi Elliot Pachter, Elizabeth
Schubiner, Lori Weisberg and Sara
Zivian Zwickl.
New members to Hillel's Board of
Directors include Jim Berger, Natalie
Newman and Steve Schlafer.

8). Cutler has 20 years of educational
experience in both
private and public
education. She served
as a lead educator in
the Excellence in
Teaching Program in
the Bloomfield Hills
School District, an
educational leader-
ship program for new
Amy Cutler
teachers in public
education. She also
has experience in curriculum planning
and innovation in education and tech-
nology. Cutler earned a master's degree
in educational evaluation and research
from Wayne State University. She
returns to Hillel Day School, where she
taught computer technology as well as
serving as an officer on the board of
directors.
These positions are part of the long-
range plan that was adopted by the
board of directors in February 1999.

Triathlon Fights
Breast Cancer

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will host
Triathlon for Hope to raise money
for breast cancer research.
The triathlon will include half-
hour run, half-hour swim and a half-
hour Spin class at the JCC in West
Bloomfield Sunday, Oct. 14. Session
I will be held 9-10:30 a.m. and
Session II from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Proceeds from the fund-raiser will
go to breast cancer research and treat-
ment at City of Hope National
Medical Center and Beckman
Research Institute. A minimum
donation of $40 is required to partic-
ipate.
Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. for
Session I and 11 a.m. for Session II.
Participation is limited to 60.
Registration deadline is Oct. 7. Those
who register before the early bird
deadline of Sept. 30 will receive a $5
discount. Checks should be made
payable to the City of Hope.
