grandmother is Bess Dorfman of
Austin, Texas.
George will be in the eighth grade
at Derby Middle School in
Birmingham. His favorite activities
include playing lacrosse and football,
snowboarding, sailing and forensics.
Last spring, George placed second in
the state in forensics.
For his mitzvah project, George
danced and sang with residents at the
Fleischman Residence in West
Bloomfield and brought his dog to
the residence to visit with the seniors.

mitzvah Saturday,

Mt. Clemens.
Andrew is a B+
student at Seneca
Middle School in
Macomb, a leading
hitter, starting
pitcher and short-
stop on his father-coached baseball
team. He enjoys computer games as
well as playing clarinet in the Seneca
school band.
As part of his mitzvah project,
Andrew is volunteering at Yad Ezra
in Oak Park.

Sarah Calder Hammond of San
Mateo, Calif, was called to the Torah
as a bat mitzvah on May 5, at
Peninsula Temple Sholom in San
Mateo. She is the daughter of former
Detroiters Lisa (Cooke) and Paul
Hammond and the sister of Mara.
Proud grandparents are Anita Pensler
of Napa, Calif., and
Pixie and Bob
Hammond of Palo
Alto, Calif. She is
also the grandchild
of the late Arnold
Cooke and the late
Alvin Pensler.
Sarah is an
honor student at
Borel Middle School. She enjoys
dance, especially ballet and tap,
musical theater and cheerleading. For
her mizrvah project, she bought and
donated books to her former elemen-
tary school through the Jewish
Coalition for Literacy.
