Edmonton — Alex Averbukh, a

Russian-born Israeli, won a silver
medal in the pole vault at the World
Championships on Aug. 10 with a
jump of 5.85 meters (19.2 feet).
Also in Edmonton, Adam Goucher
of the United States placed 10th in
the 5000 meter run, American Deena
Drossin placed 11th in the 10,000
meters, Israeli Vadim Bavikin placed
12th in the javelin, and Svetlana
Zalevskaya of Kazaksran placed 12th
in the high jump.

Bloomfield Panthers, an 8-and-under
baseball team coached by Amy Bloom
and David Deutsch, capped the sum-
mer season by winning the
Millington (Mich.) Invitational
Baseball Tournament on July 21.
After finishing second with a 4-1
record the week before in Elba,
Mich., the Panthers went 3-1 and
were able to defeat the Millington
Cardinals 12-2 in the championship
game.
The Panthers finished their four
tournaments with an 11-5 record.
Players were, from West Bloomfield:
Eric Bloom, Ryan Bloom, Jared
Grodman, Steven Lenenbom and
Andrew Murphy. From Farmington
Hills: Danny Deutsch, Johnny
Deutsch, Mathew Fagen, Takuya
Kachi, Jacob Rosenberg, Brandon
Shulman and Sam Hess, and from
Commerce Township: Brett
Felsenfeld.

Cobras Post
Strong Season
The North Farmington-West

Bloomfield Cobras 10-and-under
travel baseball team finished their sea-
son 37-9. The team won three tour-
naments and finished second in the
11-team Little Caesars Federation
Travel League. The Cobras won a
national qualifier in Lansing, the
Brighton tournament and the AABC
Districts in Dexter. The team
includes: Brad Hantler, Andy
Buchanan, Eric Altman, Cory Davis,
Jake Holloway, James Long, Alex
Goldfarb, Steven Kanter, Jarret
Levine, Cory Manoogian, Eli LeWitt
and Robert Sallen.Coaches are Dave
Long, Doug Holloway, Alan Kanter
and manager Jeff Levine.
