The Adat Shalom Synagogue
Sisterhood will launch the fall enter-
tainment season with "Hiddur
Mitzvah — Celebrating the Holidays
in Style," a two-day event beginning
Monday, Aug. 27.
Monday's patron evening and pre-
view party is titled "Orchestrating
the Holidays with Culinary and
Musical delights." A performance by
Cantor Howard Glantz and a cook-
ing demonstration by Annabel
Cohen will accompany the opening
of the holiday table exhibition. There
will be a wine and dessert reception.
On Aug. 28, participants will hear
presentations by Lynn Scheele
Nevins on "Holiday Family Rituals,"
author Norene Gilletz on quick and
easy cooking, Nancy Zide of Nancy's
Linens on creative table settings,
Fiona Palmer of Fiona's Tea House
on the art of serving tea and crafter
Sharon Bass on "Decorating with
Leaf Painting."
A continental breakfast, light
lunch and boutique shopping is
included.
There is a $40 charge to attend
the all-day Aug. 28 event and a $5
charge to view the table exhibitions
only. The patron preview admission
begins at $50.

Toward Meaningful Life. He also heads
the Meaningful Life Learning Center in
New York City.

Clover Hill Park Cemetery and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek will hold
a "Time of Remembrance" service 2
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the cemetery
chapel in Birmingham.
The Shaarey Zedek clergy will con-
duct a brief memorial service. Family
and friends then will proceed to the
graves of their departed for a special
prayer. Individual prayer booklets will
be available.

Tikkun Olam Volunteers (TOV) will
prepare Rosh Hashanah food pack-
ages for homebound elderly clients
of Jewish Family Service, 8:30-11:30
a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the JFS
offices, 24123 Greenfield Road,
Southfield. A continental breakfast
for volunteers will be served.
TOV is a program of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's
Women's Campaign and Education
Department. The program connects
Federation women with volunteer
opportunities in the community at
large.

Farmington Hills-based Bais Menachem
Academy has added Rabbi Boruch
Green as secular studies coordinator and
controller of finances.
Since 1976, Rabbi Green served as
head rabbinics teacher and curriculum
coordinator at the Pittsburgh Lubavitch
Yeshivah. During his tenure, the yeshiv-
ah was one of a few schools nationally to
receive a blue ribbon award from the
President's Commission on Education.
The yeshiva was honored for its excel-
lence in secular education.
Bais Menachem Academy has
received 18 computers with the help of
Michael Whitt and Providence Hospital
in Southfield. The school now has two
computers in each classroom as well as a
computer lab. The new machines will be
used for advanced and remedial tutorials
in Hebrew, mathematics, English and
science.
Avi Schreiber has been appointed
math and science teacher for the ele-
mentary and middle school grades at the
academy.
