Aug. 10, 1941, the Nazi SS and local
gentiles machine-gunned 3,000 Jewish
men and buried them in a mass grave
outside the town. Women and chil-
dren were enslaved in a barbed-wire
ghetto until Sept. 10, 1942, when the
survivors were slain by the SS in a
similar manner as the men. The mas-

Temple Honors
Cantor Orbach

with Cantor Harold Orbach on Sunday,

cantor and Evelyn
Orbach.
Cantor Orbach
A nationally recog-
nized scholar of Jewish music, both
liturgical and secular, Cantor Orbach
has inspired worshippers and thrilled lis-
teners with his clear tenor. He also
trained many young cantors during his
tenure at the West Bloomfield temple;
several of them will return to sing with
him at this concert. The musical celebra-
tion will also include traditional dancing
and a klezmer band.
The event is being sponsored by the
temple's affiliate groups, which will also
arrange for the cantor's entire family,
some coming from as far away as Israel,
to attend.
