Adat Shalom Marks Tisha b'Av

Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold
services for Tisha b'Av at 8:45 p.m.
Saturday, July 28, and at 8 a.m.
Sunday, July 29.
On Saturday evening the Book of
Eichah (Lamentations) will be chant-
ed by members of the clergy along
with adult and teenage members of

the congregation. In addition, there
will be special readings to emphasize
the theme of the day.
Participating in the services will be
Rabbi Daniel Nevins, Cantor Larry
Vieder, Neal Blatt, Paul Magy, Saul
Rose, Elliot Solomon and Asher
Tilchin.

Beth El Cites Temple Members

ITS Honorees

The annual Jewish Theological Seminary dinner in support of student scholar-
ships was held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Shown are Alfred Bricker,
William Schumer, Herbert Kaufman and Marc Sussman. Standing on the
ground are Lillian Bricker, Irene Schumer, Evelyn Kasle, Flora Kaufman, Lynne
Avadenka and Dr. Ismar Schorsch.

The Temple Beth El honorees are Susan Fenster, L. Steven Weiner and
Chuck Zamek.

In recognition of exemplary serv-
ice, Susan Fenster, L. Steven
Weiner and Chuck Zamek were
honored at the annual meeting of
Temple Beth El with the presen-
tation of the President's Cup.
Each was cited by President Alan
A. May.
Fenster is chair of the B.
Benedict Glazer School program,
which brings volunteers to the
school weekly to work with first-
graders to increase reading skills.
She also chairs the temple's annu-
al book drive for the Glazer
School, which provides books for
both the school library and indi-
vidual students. She is a former
member of the temple's board of
trustees and its executive commit-
tee.
Weiner was recognized for his
commitment to providing finan-
cial assistance wherever and
whenever needed. He is affiliated

with the Edw. C. Levy Co., is a
member of the temple board,
serves on the ways and means and
executive committees and co-
chairs the social action commit-
tee.
Zamek is a member of the
brotherhood and chair of the
CPR classes. He serves on the
Bikkur Cholim committee and is
one of a core group who conducts
Shabbat services at the Evergreen
Nursing Home in Southfield. He
is an assistant head usher and a
temple docent.
Corporate secretary and active
property/casualty insurance agent
at Total Insurance Services Inc.
and a past president of the
Pontiac area Association of
Independent Insurance Agents,
Zamek has been a volunteer with
the Waterford Fire Department
and serves as a director of the
Waterford Goodfellows.

Youth Winners

The Temple Beth El Young People's Society was awarded its second Walter E.
Klein Award by the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit. The
award, which recognizes outstanding social action programming by area youth
groups, was given for work the students conducted focusing on HIV/AIDS
awareness and advocacy during the Lawson Youth Institute. Pictured are Patty

youth society.
