Triathlon Fights
Breast Cancer

The Jewish Community Center of
•Metropolitan Detroit will host Triathlon
for Hope to raise money for breast can-
cer research.
The triathlon will include a half-hour
run, half-hour swim and a half-hour
Spin class. The event will take place at
the Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield Sunday, Aug. 5. Session I
will be from 9-10:30 a.m. and session II
from 10:30-noon.
Proceeds from the event will go to
breast cancer research and treatment at
City of Hope national medical center
and Beckman Research Institute. A
minimum donation of $40 is required
to participate in the event.
Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. at the Katz
Outdoor Pool and Plaza for session I
participants and at 10 a.m. for session II
participants. Registration deadline is
July 29. Those who register before the
early bird deadline, July 22, will receive
a $5 discount.

Barbara Nurenberg, president and
CEO, Jewish Vocational Service (WS),
was named executive of the year at the
United Way Community Services annu-
al meeting in Detroit.
The award honors an outstanding
chief executive of a nonprofit human .
service agency or organization in
Wayne, Oakland or Macomb that
serves all or part of the tri-county area.
Nurenberg served JVS as a career
counselor, and since 1992 as president
and CEO. With her leadership, JVS
evolved from vocational training to a
human services agency.
Nurenberg serves on Elwyn Israel, a
Jerusalem-based multicultural organiza-
tion dedicated to serving individuals
with developmental disabilities. She
serves on the boards of the National
Industry for Severely Handicapped and
International AssociatiOn of Jewish
Vocational Services and on the Oakland
County Workforce Development
Board.
Another award presented at United
Way's meeting was the Max M. Fisher
Community Service Award given to
Eugene A. Miller, chairman and CEO
of Comerica Inc.
