guts, he then crawled up the flight of
stairs and banged on the door of his
mother's apartment, screaming,
"Mama! Mama! Help me, Mama!"
His mother opened the door, eyed
him up and down and said, "Bubbeleh,
come in. First you eat, then you talk!"
Before sending her son off for his
first day at school, the boy's mother
hugged him and said, "Good luck, my
bubbeleh. Be good, bubbeleh, and
work hard.
"And remember, bubbeleh, at lunch
time eat all of your food and play
nicely with the other children. Oh,
bubbeleh, I'm so proud!"
That afternoon, when the little boy
returned home, his mother cried,
"Bubbeleh, my bubbeleh, give your
mother a hug. So, tell me, what did
you learn at school today?"
"Well," said the boy, "to start with, I
learned that my name is Sammy."
A Jewish mother is worrying day-in
and day-out about her poor son, far
away in college. "Will he ever find a
nice girl? Will he have enough to eat?
Will he be cold at night?"
While worrying she decides to, at
least, buy and send him two warm
flannel shirts.
A couple of months later he travels
back home to see his- mother. After
many hours on a bus he arrives at her
door and thinks, "Wait, maybe I
should wear one of the shirts she sent
me. Surely this makes her happy!"
He puts on the shirt, rings the door-
bell and his mother opens. "Jankel!
Mammele!"
"Jankel, I am so happy to see you!
And you even wore one of the st-rrs I
sent you.
"But tell me, you didn't like the
other shirt?"

MOTHER'S DAY THOUGHTS

... If evolution really works, how come
Mothers only have two hands? ... Most
rs are always amazed when their
ons or daughters marry someone with
rower meal capacity, ambition
and moral standards, yet still manage
to have utterly brilliant children ... A
daughter broke up with her boyfriend
and asked her mother's advice about
returning the gifts he'd given her.
Without a pause, her mother replied,
"Send back the stuffed animals and
letters, but keep the jewelry for senti-
mental reasons" ... A single mom was
asked by a friend what her son was
taking in college, and with a sigh she
replied, "Everything I have" ... Fathers,
take heart, your day is coming (June
17) and you can be sure of getrir -; at
least one thing ... the bills from
Mother's Day. ❑
