What's Kosher

If you're wondering what products are
kosher for Passover, there are local and
national sources you can go to find out.
Locally; the Metropolitan Kashruth
Council of Michigan in Southfield has
announced products that will be made
Kosher for Passover under its supervision
(MKC emblem), said Rabbi Jack
Goldman, administrator. For a list, call
(248) 855-4324.
Rabbi Goldman said Borden cottage
cheese, sour cream, 2% milk, orange
juice and grapefruit juice and Burger
Creamery coffee cream are sold at
Farmer Jack and at Salvaggio's. Sealtest
2% milk and skim milk are sold at
Hiller's Emporium stores. Gift Baskets &
Trays' dried fruits and nuts choice may
be purchased directly at American
Gourmet Foods in West Bloomfield.
Alvita herbal teas are sold at health food
stores.
The Council of Orthodox Rabbis of
Greater Detroit in Southfield also is
available to assist in learning more about
Kosher for Passover products. The phone
number is (248) 559-5005. The Kashrus
Hotline is (248) 968-3057. Its kosher
symbol is a starred k. The Council
specifically lists in its KosherGram these
food stores with Passover goods sections:
One Stop Kosher in Southfield, Farmer
Jack in Oak Park, Southfield and West
Bloomfield, and Kroger at 12 Mile and
Halsted in Farmington Hills.
The Guide to Kosher for Passover Foods,
prepared by the Kashrut Department
New York City-based Orthodox Union,
is available in many grocery stores and
synagogues as well as via the World
Wide Web at wwvv.ou.org. Its kosher
symbol is a circled u.
