service you'd always
like to see.
About 50 relatives
and close friends at
the Las Vegas
Country Club told
about Maurey's life
... watched him
blow out the can-
dles on his cake ... and assured him of
attending as he invited all to his 100th
birthday parry.
Herb, Denny and Sidney Pastor,
Maurey's sons; Fran Cowell, his girl-
friend; Fay Freedland of West
Bloomfield, sister; Pauline and Sid
Stoller, former Detroiters living in Las
Vegas; Bob Stupack, original owner of
the Stratosphere Casino in Las Vegas;
Michael Tell, editor and publisher of
the Las Vegas Israelite; etc.
ANOTHER BREAD BASKET Deli
will soon come to Waterford ... It will
be opened very shortly by Al Winkler,
who also has Bread Basket Deli of
Livonia and of Redford, at the former
Taco Bell locale on Telegraph, just
south of Elizabeth Lake Road ... Al
and Ron Forman, of Oak Park's Bread
Basket, are affiliated in the four-deli-
catessen mini-chain ... The Waterford
Bread Basket will seat around 50.
ATTENDEES WHO greeted the
opening of Musician's Night featuring
the Billy Rose Quartet every Monday
evening, 7:30 p.m., at Longshots Bar &
Grill, owned by Don Vargo on Grand
River, east of Inkster, were happy ones.
Especially the many dancers who
came to terpsi to Billy's variety of
rhythms ... from standard to Latin to
jazz ... in what looks to become a
dancer's heaven.
Three sit-ins with Bill and his group
also participated in the expected-to-be
regular Monday evening highlight ... a
saxophonist, guitarist-harmonica stylist
... and Tim Hazel, dressed in cowboy
garb, but a many-faceted songster who
appears Wednesday evenings at
Longshots with his guitar and a key-
board companion.
The food at Longshots Bar & Grill ...
at ridiculously low prices ($10 for a 16
oz. N.Y. strip steak; surf & turf of lamb
chops and salmon or lobster tail, $12;
both with baked potato and Caesar or
regular salad; etc.) are added qualities.
Among the folks attending, Marla
Mendelson, beverage manager at the
Bloomfield Open Hunt Club; and
mother Carol Kliman Hack, grand-
daughter and daughter of popular
localite Jerry Hack, have already tabbed
themselves as Monday night regulars at
Longshots ... along with many others.
SAME NAME ... well, almost ... and
