mer location of his previous successful
restaurant as possible ... He had left
when the leases of retail operations
weren't renewed.
House of Hunan, when on 12 Mile,
was one of the original Hunan and
Szechuan restaurants in the northwest
area.
If you are into spicy food, the
Chong Qing Spicy Chicken, Yeu Ling
Chicken and Dan Ying Beef are your
kind of dishes ... Don't know too
many places that serve them ... You
won't find the selections on the regular
menu ... They're in the special
Szechuan bill of fare that so many
Chinese look for.
Joe came here in 1972 from
Singapore, where everybody is served
a la carte ... His House of Hunan fol-
lows this except for Cantonese choices,
which come Americanized with egg
roll and soup.
House of Hunan is open seven days,
lunch and dinner ... Monday-
Thursday 11:30 to 10:30; Friday and
Saturday to 11:30; Sunday noon to 10.
Servers wear tuxedo shirts and bow
ties, as they graciously and efficiently
bring your orders ... all individually
cooked when selected.
The sushi bar and room, with cook-
ing by Japanese gentlemen, has most
of the favorite sushi, rolls and sashimi
that have gathered such wide recogni-
tion ... almost 45 choices.
When entering House of Hunan,
there are two large stone lions on the
outside to greet you ... And then when
inside, four more lions are there, spit-
ting water from a fountain.
Joe Chue wanted to be near the many
friends he made while on 12 Mile ...
and always did desire something differ-

He has accomplished both with
Chinese and Japanese cuisine under
the same roof ... winning a lot of new
friends for him.

It was the evening before Maurey
Pastor's 90th birthday party at the Las
Vegas Country Club ... with Maurey
among those being honored at
Congregation Ner Tamid.
The music by members of Ner Tamid
and a 12-piece children's choir was the
happy foot-stomping kind ... as Maurey
and others danced in the aisles ...- People
clapped their hands in unified rhythm
as the rabbi led them ... and a female
cantor at his side sang with lively zest.
It was the kind of congregational
