n 1997, participants in a
Machon L;Torah medical ethics
study class organized a day-long
seminar for a more in-depth
look at related issues.
Five years later, the annual Medical
and Professional Ethics Conference
continues with the Sunday, Feb. 25
program, "To Wonder, Ponder and
Discover."
Hosted by Botsford Hospital in
Farmington Hills, sessions will be led
by rabbis, doctors, educators and
chaplains on the ethical and legal per-
spective of subjects ranging from
prayer and visiting the sick to cosmet-
ic surgery and childhood illness. A
series of case studies will also be pre-
sented in an interactive course.
Sessions are CME accredited by
either Botsford Hospital or Henry
Ford Hospital in Detroit for physi-
cians and those in health care fields,
but the conference is open to anyone
interested in medical ethics.
Machon L:Torah, the Jewish
Learning Network of Michigan is an
Oak Park-based independent, non-prof-
it community sponsored organization,
founded and directed by Rabbi
Avraham Jacobovitz, to perpetuate
Jewish values and culture.
The program will begin with an 8
a.m. breakfast, followed by sessions
running until 5:30 p.m., including:

and dean of the Kollel Institute of
Greater Detroit
•When Does Medicine Become
Alternative? with Rabbi Richard
Weiss, a native Detroiter who is both
a rabbi and licensed physician and
bioethic consultant to the
Metropolitan Jewish Health System of
Brooklyn and rabbi of the West Side
Jewish Center in New York City
•Enrichment by Outreach: The
Mitzvah of Visiting the Sick with
Rabbi E.B. "Bunny" Freedman, direc-
tor of Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy
Network in Southfield
•What is Right and Wrong with
Cosmetic Surgery? with Dr. Julian
(Yoel) Jakobovitz, attending physician
at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and
