Were You Forced To Work
For The Nazis?

As far back as I can remember, all
public political and governmental
events (with the Rev. Billy Graham
delivering many of the prayers) have
always used non-sectarian prayers.
Everyone, whether they be of Jewish,
Buddhist or Muslim faiths, could
always feel comfortable at a public
(non-religious) event. This time, the
prayer said, "We humble ourselves
before you and acknowledge you
alone as our Lord, our Savior and
Redeemer, Jesus Christ."
President George W. Bush and the
rwo ministers that spoke at his inau-
guration have sent the non-Christian
citizens of this country a strong mes-
sage of separateness. It is biting, offen-
sive and chilling!
I am also disappointed at the lack of
public outcry. Why haven't the citizens
of this country who are not Christian
raised their voices in protest?
I can only hope that we, as a
nation, can pray together harmo-
niously. There are enough differences
of opinion on a multitude of topics
without insulting and isolating other
faiths. Shouldn't all of us have been
able to pray together for our country
and our new president?

Thanks To ADL
For Mission Support

We wish to thank the Anti-Defama-
tion League and its community edu-
cation endowment for graciously
sending us to Israel as ADL:s represen-
tatives on the Michigan Unity Mis-
sion to Israel ("Making The Connec-
tion, Jan. 26, page 6).
As co-chairs of ADUs Steinberg
Young Leadership Division, we wit-
nessed firsthand the unparalleled his-
torical and ongoing impact that our
Jewish community has upon the State
of Israel. Like all of the mission par-
ticipants, we took extraordinary pride
in expressing our support for Israel in
this difficult time.
We would also like to thank every-
one at the Jewish Federation of Met-
ropolitan Detroit for their tremen-
dous efforts in planning the "Mission
with a Mission." Their creativity and
professionalism created a truly memo-
rable and special experience for all of
the mission participants.
