Amanda Lauren Markowitz of West
Bloomfield will be called to the
Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
Feb. 3, at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. She is the daughter of
Andrew and Linda Markowitz and
sister of Michelle,
Rachel and Sarah.
Proud grandparents
are Sam and Lorry
Greene and Mel and
Sybil Markowitz.
Amanda is an
honor student at
Walnut Creek
Middle School in
Walled Lake. She enjoys skiing, bas-
ketball, horseback riding, friends,
dancing, volleyball, swimming, read-
ing and writing. Amanda found it
particularly meaningful to make
bowls with residents of the Jewish
Association for Residential Care, visit
their homes, deliver meals with the
Shining Light program, make dolls
for Hadassah and help handicapped
children ride horses.
Amanda is named in loving mem-
ory of her great-grandmother Ada
and great-grandfather Abraham.

Evan Plisner will be called to the
Torah as a bar mitzvah during
Shabbt services at Temple Beth El
on Saturday, Feb. 3. Joining Evan on
the bimah will be his parents, Carol
and Bruce Plisner, and his sister
Amanda. Proud grandparents are
Doris and Morris
Plisner of
Livingston, N.J.,
and Rita and
Marvin Greenberg
of Teaneck, N.J.
Evan attends
Warner Middle
School in
Farmington Hills,
where he is an
honor student. Among his favorite
activities are lacrosse, playing the
drums and spending summers at
Camp Tamakwa.
Evan's mitzvah activities include
serving meals at the Coalition On
Temporary Shelter and participating
in Jewish Family Service projects
such as the Fall Fix-Up. Evan looks
forward to continuing with his vol-
unteer activities after his bar mitzvah.

Andrea (A.J.) Roberts will celebrate
her bat mitzvah on Saturday, Feb. 3,
at Temple Beth El. She is the daugh-
ter of Scott and Judy Roberts and sis-
ter of Max, Joey, Melissa and Darren.
Proud grandparents are Phyllis and

Marshall Loewenstein and Norma
Roberts. She is also the great-grand-
daughter of Stanley Lewis and the
late Eve Lewis of Weston, Mass.
A.J. is- a student
at Cranbrook-
Kingswood Middle
School in
Bloomfield Hills.
Her interests
include horseback
riding, snow skiing
and water skiing.
She plays basketball,
soccer and volleyball for Kingswood
School and softball for the North
Farmington West Bloomfield
League.
For her mitzvah projects, A.J. vol-
unteered at Yad Ezra, delivering. food
to homebound people, and she
packed food boxes at Gleaners Food
Bank. She also volunteered her ser-
vices as a clown at the annual holi-
day party at Orchards Children's
Services. She is looking forward to
her first visit to Israel this summer
with her family.

Emily Jill Rosen (Shira Aviva) will
be called to the Torah as a bat mitz-
vah at Congregation Beth Ahm on
Saturday, Feb. 3. She is the daughter
of Dr. Steven and Evelyn Rosen and
sister of Jason and Marcy. Proud
grandparents are Maurice and Doris
Chandler, Delores
and Jim Palazzolo,
and Ben and Adele
Rosen.
Emily is a sev-
enth-grade honor
student at Hillel
Day School of
Metropolitan
Detroit in
Farmington Hills.
She has participated on the basket-
ball, volleyball, soccer and cross-
country teams. She also enjoys play-
ing piano and tennis. For her mitz-
vah project, Emily volunteered at
Fleischman Residence, Yad Ezra and
at the Empty Bowls program that
benefited Yad Ezra and the Oakland
County Food Bank.

Allison Elizabeth Shatz will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. She is the daughter of
Mark and Rhonna Shatz, sister of
Ben Rosenberg and the late Sasona
Shatz. Proud grandparents are Ledra
and Robert Sachs and Phyllis and
Irwin Shatz.
Allison attends seventh grade at

Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills, where
she is an honor student. She is a
member of the
Black Dog swim
team at the Sport
Club and enjoys
skiing, sewing and
cooking. For her
mitzvah project,
she made use of her
love of cooking and
for the last two
summers baked 500 cookies for the
Make-A-Wish Foundation's summer
bicycle ride from Mackinac to
Detroit. She also volunteers for their
speciaLsocial events. With her
babysitting earnings, Allison spon-
sors a 12-year-old from the
Dominican Republic through
Childreach.

Zachary Isaac Slabotsky was called
to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Jan. 27, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. He is
the son of Susan
and Larry Slabotsky
and brother of
Arielle and Annie.
He is the grandson
of Carolyn and
Beryl Rosenstein of
Baltimore and Sally
Gordon Slabotsky
of Shawnee
Mission, Kan.
Zachary is an honor student at
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills. He
enjoys basketball, using the comput-
er and spending time with family
and friends. Zachary's mitzvah pro-
jects included working at Yad Ezra
and Fleischman Residence.

Ilana Michelle Sprague will celebrate
her bat mitzvah on Saturday, Feb. 3,
at Temple Israel. She is the daughter
of Robin and
Jeffery Sprague and
sister of Carly. Her
proud grandparents
are Kathy and Ray
Lynch and Jerry
Sprague. She is also
the grandchild of
the late Roberta
Sprague.
Ilana is a student at Warner
Middle School in Farmnington Hills
and likes dance, soccer and attending
Camp Tamarack. Volunteering for
the American Cancer Society was her
most meaningful mitzvah project.
