At Adat Shalom

Ada Shalom Synagogue will hold
another Ilavdalah Rocks service from
6:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at
the synagogue.
Joining in the musical service will be
Rabbi Daniel Nevins, percussion and
vocals; Cantor Howard Glantz, guitar
and vocals; Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz,
Rabbi Jay Strear and Youth and
Education Director Elissa Berg, back-up
vocals; and La:Ara Schwartz on key-
boards
Designed for the entire family, the
service is open to the community.

Program Focus:
Self-Improvement

Singles and couples age 35-50 are invit-
ed to join in Five Jewish Steps to Self-
improvement, a Havdalah program fea-
turing Rabbi Alon Tolwin of Aish
HaTorah, 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at
Ariana Gallery, 119 Main Street, down-
town Royal Oak.
The program is sponsored by
Avenues through the Community
Outreach and Education Department
of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit. Dessert will be
provided, reservation deadline is
Friday, Jan., 26.

A scholarship honoring the memory of
the late James Goldwasser, professor of
English at the Center for Creative
Studies, will be awarded to a student at
the Cranbrook Writers Conference next
August.
The three-day conference for student
writers from Michigan colleges and uni-
versities is sponsored by the Cranbrook
V'i Guild. The tuition covers a frac-
tion of the actual cost; the guild funds
the remainder from grants, member-
and special events.
Judy Goldwasser of Bloomfield Hills,
longtime member of the guild board,
said the scholarship honoring her hus-
band was highly appropriate because of
his interest in writing and devotion as a
teacher.
