Second-generation C class offers more power, more interi-
or roominess for its five passengers and sleeker styling
that borrows from Mercedes' biggest, most prestigious
vehicle, the S class. New engine for the 0240 is a 168-
horsepower V6 paired with a standard six-speed manual or
five-speed automatic transmission. The C320 offers a
215-horsepower V6 and a five-speed automatic as standard
(no manual). Standard safety features include curtain side
airbags for extra head and upper-body protection in side-
impact collisions, and rear door-mounted side airbags for
lower torso protection. The ESP (Electronic Stability
Program) prevents slides and spins.
The North American International Auto Show 2001 comes to Cobo
Center Saturday, Jan. 13 through Sunday, Jan. 21. Show hours are 10
