RUTH GRODSKY, 82, of
Southfield, died Dec. 12.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Elliott and Anita
Grodsky of Farmington Hills;
daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn
and David Schechter of Loui s ville,
Ky.; sister, Hilda Frank of
Southfield; grandchildren, Ira
Schechter, Ron and Uta Schechter,
Lawrence and Lisa Grodsky, Gerald
and Jennifer Grodsky; great-grand-
children, Aaron, Arthur, Darian,
Luca, Rachel; sister-in-law, Florence
Amster. Mrs. Grodsky was the
beloved wife of the late Abe
Grodsky; loving sister of the late Sol
Amster.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Interment at
Machpelah Cemetery. Arrangements
by Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

RUTH WAINGER HURWITZ,
91, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and
Bloomfield Hills, died Dec. 20.
A prominent member of Detroit
society, Mrs. Hurwitz was former
co-owner of the Grinnell Music Co.
and Wright Kay Jewelers stores.
Mrs. Hurwitz's involvement with
art collecting started in the early
1960s with "great passion and a dis-
cerning eye," said Lee Hoffman, a
local art dealer, who had known
Mrs. Hurwitz over that era.
Mrs. Hurwitz donated a Hans
Hoffman painting to the Detroit
Institute of Art and funding to the
DIA and Cranbrook Art Institute. A
recent donation will make possible a
new addition to the Cranbrook Art
Museum.
A life member of the National
Council of Jewish Women, Mrs.
Hurwitz also belonged to Women's
American ORT, Franklin Hills
Country Club and Temple Beth El,
where she donated a full cathedral
organ in the name of her first hus-
band Jack Wainger. "A fitting ges-
ture," said grandson Jonathan
Zweig, "for people who helped to
bring music to so many people

through Grinnell."
Mrs. Hurwitz met her first hus-
band while studying at Wayne State
University, where she majored in
sociology and graduated with hon-
ors.
"Really the most elegant couple
in Detroit," said Zweig of his grand-
parents. "They traveled the world.
Their life was like out of a movie."
Her husband died in 1975. Mrs.
Hurwitz married Solomon Hurwitz
in 1984.
She is survived by her husband,
Solomon Hurwitz; daughter and
son-in-law, Janice Shulak of San
Diego; grandchildren, Sue Beth and
Michael Peck, Jonathan Zweig,
Andrew Zweig, Leslie and Barry
Hemmerling; great-grandchildren,
Hannah Peck, David Raymond
Peck, Hailey Hemmerling, Tyler
Hemmerling; brothers and sister-in-
law, Alfred Cohn of Los Angeles,
Irving and Mary Cohn of Los
Angeles.
Mrs. Hurwitz was the beloved
wife of the late Jack Wainger; loving
mother of the late Judith Zweig.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
Park. Contributions may be made to
the Jack Wainger Library Fund at
Brandeis University, 415 South St.,
Waltham, MA 02454-9110 or any
cancer association. Arrangements by
Ira Kaufman Chapel.

DR. .MYRON KAUFMAN, 78, of
West Bloomfield, died Dec. 25. He
was a graduate of the University of
Michigan Dental School and was
the first trained oral surgery resident
in the metro Detroit area at Mt.
Carmel Hospital and the University
Of Michigan Oral Maxillofacial
Surgery program. Dr. Kaufman was
a trainer in oral maxillofacial surgery
at Sinai Hospital for 35 years. He
received a meritorious award from
the American Dental Association
Council on International Relations
in 1977.
Dr. Kaufman was a fellow of the
American Association of Oral
Maxillofacial Surgeons, a board
examiner of the American Board of
Oral Maxillofcial Surgeons, past
president of the Michigan Society of
Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons and a
member of the Alpha Omega Dental
Fraternity. He donated his time,
through Hope Ship in South
America, providing reconstructive .
maxillofacial surgery to indigent
patients suffering facial deformities.
He was a member of Congregation
