For the 12th year, Gail
Mandel and Mary Tarnow,
Fleischman's gift shop coordina-
tors and buyers, along with the
shop's volunteers, spent weeks
prior to the show helping the
models choose their outfits and
accessories.
"The gift shop carries entire
wardrobes of wonderful clothes,
purses, accessories and many small
things the residents need, like soap,
candy bars or deodorant," Katz said.
The store remained open for shopping
after the fashion show, with Katz
adding, "All the money the gift shop
makes goes to help pay for program-
ming at Fleischman."
Helping at the event were Alaine
Waldshan, staff associate for the
Community Outreach and Education
Department of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, and volunteers

"helped to make up the women before
the show Others served as dressers, and
to help them line up."

Feldman, Ari Rubin, Jonathan Guyer
and Jeff Sulaka to escort the models
onto the runway. ❑

Temple Israel To Host Book Fair

Several special events are planned dur-
ing the Temple Israel Book Fair, which
is Sunday-Wednesday, Dec. 17-20.
A parenting workshop and book
signing with author Karen Kushner
(How to Be a Jewish Parent) will take
place 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 .
Michelle Weston, consulting fashion
and style director for modestyle.com
and author of Learning Curves: Living
Your Lift in Full and With Style, will
hold a discussion and book signing at
7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.
A storytime for children age 6 and
younger, accompanied by an adult,

will be at noon Tuesday, Dec. 19.
"The Cat in the Hat" character will
make an appearance. For reservations,

Borders Books & Music of
Farmington Hills will be the fair ven-
dor. Shirley Saltzman is vice chair of
the Temple Israel Library Committee.
Book fair hours will be 9:30 a.m.-
3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17; 9 a.m. 9
p.m. Monday, Dec. 18k; and 9 a.m.-
4:30 p.m. both Tuesday and
Wednesday, Dec. 19 and 20.
