cy. He made his last address to B'nai
B'rith at the organization's 1998
international convention in
Jerusalem.
Wexler rose from B'nai B'rith's
Savannah Lodge in Georgia to
become a district president, a vice
president and finally international
president. He served other Jewish
organizations as well, holding top
leadership positions in Israel Bonds,
the United Jewish Appeal, the
American Jewish Joint Distribution
Committee and the Jewish Welfare
Foundation in addition to the
Conference of Presidents.
During his six years as president,
Wexler saw B'nai B'rith gain official
status at the United Nations as a
non-governmental organization and
created the B'nai B'rith Technical
Corps, which sent thousand of
American and Canadians technicians
to Israel to help build the country.
Wexler was an early supporter of
civil rights.
