Great deals like

around forever.

On a track to develop common
professional, scientific and techno-
logical interests, Shamir said the
group of scientists and students suf-
fers little from political ups and
downs, but the recent violence has
forced them to communicate
through faxes, e-mails and phone
calls.

New Foundation
For Berkley Schools

A new group designed to enhance
the learning experience of students
in the Berkley School District has
received unanimous support of the
district's Board of Education.
The Berkley
Educational
Foundation is an
independent
non-profit
organization
established in
June by the
school board.
Chaired by for-
mer State Rep.
David Gubow of
Huntington
Woods, the foun- David Gubow
dation will sup-
port programs, curricula, facilities
and teachers. Its goal is to raise and
invest funds that will be given to
the school district.
Foundation board members also
will help determine uses for the
funds.The idea for the foundation
was first raised more than a year
ago. By the district's Nov. 13 school
board meeting, every member of
both the foundation board and the
school board had made a contribu-
tion."The school district and its vol-
unteers have a long-standing tradi-
tion of supporting the local schools
with time and money through
PTAs, booster clubs and other
organizations," said Gubow.
The new foundation will allow
community members to build on
the practice of giving, he added,
with the result of expanded oppor-
tunities for school district children.
