Jerry and Jeanette
Olson still celebrat-
ing their birthdays
together ... Their
yearly observances
are 10 days apart ...
Sweet Sandra
Mandella, terrific
songstress, still
doing togetherness singing with Sam
Locricchio, with whom she sang so
much at the former Arriva ... Ralph
Woronoff reminiscing about the 1960s
when he was CPA for the Jewish News
... Lou and Evelyn Grant, lifelong
friends who can never say enough
about Emily and Sonny ... Rick
Rogow, co-owner of Big Daddy's with
Tom Peristeris, emcee for his mother,
while Tommy ran from table to table
with food.
A great evening for a fine woman ...
Emily Rogow's night was one to
remember with fondness.
"IMAGINE THAT!" exclaimed
Leo Raminick to wife, Clara ... Our
granddaughter a hockey player and
our grandson wants to be a big magi-
cian."
The granddaughter, Kim Spaulding,
daughter of Ray and Shelley
Spaulding, was given the Jewish News
Female High School Athlete of the
Year Award and the Bill Hertz
Memorial Scholarship Award ... Sloan
Jordan Eddleston, son of Graham and
Laura Eddleston, was the JN Male
High School Athlete honoree.
It was the 16th annual Induction
Dinner by the Michigan Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek ... and the 600 or so attendees
had another enjoyable evening.
Didn't look like that many because
the crowd this year was more than
ever evenly divided between the two
social halls on each side of Shaarey
Zedek's sanctuary.
Jeffrey Deitch, squash; Paul
Groffsky, basketball; and Bernard
Kahn, swimming; were this year's hall
of fame inductees ... along with
Detroit News sports writer Joe Falls.
While introducing Falls, sportscaster
Fred Heumann noted that "There
really is a singing window washer, and
he's here tonight," referring to Allan
Schwartz, who Joe sometimes men-
tions in his column ... About Bernard
Kahn, emcee Josh Lewin said, "I sent
him the script for my book."
The inside front cover of this year's
induction publication read,
"Congratulations, Grofi." ... and had a
1962 picture of the Sammys (Sigma
Alpha Mu Fraternity) at University of
Michigan ... Jerry Schostak, Stu
