CHARLOTTE MARGOLIS, 86, of
Wilton Manors, Fla., died Oct. 31.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr.
Barrie Lowy of Fountain Hills, Ariz.;
sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and
Gail Hirsch of Bloomfield Hills, Allan
and Diane Margolis, Michael and
Cristine Margolis, Herbert and Arlene
Margolis; daughter, Kay Peterson of
Arizona; grandchildren, Alex and Rachel
Lowy, Benjamin, Jonathan, Joseph and
Kitty Hirsch, Debbie and Jared
Margolis, Meeghan and Morgan
Margolis, Dawn an Sara Ruth Margolis;
great-grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler,
Elisa and William Lowy, Jonas and
Samuel Hirsch, Ellisa Hirsch; sisters,
Winifred Chase, Mildred Seclow; sister-
in-law, Carol Books. Mrs. Margolis was
the beloved wife of the late Nathan
Margolis and the dear sister of the late
Sonny Brooks.
Interment at Clover Hill Park

HENRY J. MEYER, 87, of Ann Arbor,
died Oct. 29. He received his bachelor
of arts degree with highest honors in
English and sociology in 1934 from the
University of Michigan, his master's
degree in 1937 and a Ph.D. in sociology
in 1939.
During World War II he worked for
the National War Labor Board in
Washington, D.C., as vice chair and
public member of the National
Telephone Commission. He also served
as chair of the Wage Stabilization Board,
Atlanta Region 1945-46, professor of
sociology at New York University 1946-
57. At the University of Michigan, he
held professorial rank in social work,
sociology and population planning in
the School of Public Health until his
retirement in 1977. Among his many
honors, Mr. Meyer was a senior
Fulbright lecturer at the National
Institute for Social Work, London; visit-
ing professor of sociology at the
University of Kent, Canterbury,
England; visiting professor of social
work at Tel Aviv University. He received
the Distinguished Faculty Service Award
from the University of Michigan in
1974 and the university regents estab-
lished the Henry J. Meyer Collegiate
Professorship in 1998. He initiated
Ph.D program in social work and social
science, which was the first of its kind.
His dissertation in 1939, "Structure Of
Jewish Community in the City of
Detroit," was used as the model until
the 1960s. He was also a founding
member of Congregation Shir Tikvah.
Professor Meyer is survived by his

wife of 64 years, Suzanne Meyer; daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Claire and Asher
Galed of Huntington Woods; son and
daughter-in-law, Joseph and Jane Meyer;
grandchildren, Tamar and David Chute,
Simon Galed, Michelle and Jim
Fairbarns, David and Dayne Meyer;
great-grandchildren, T.J. and Jennifer
Fairbarns.

Henry J. Meyer Scholarship Fund at the
University of Michigan, School of Social
Work, 10870 South University, Ann
Arbor, MI 48109 or to a charity of one's
choice. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman

TILLIE MOSSMAN, 85, of
Bloomfield Hills, died Nov. 2. She was a
member of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek.
She is survived by sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Douglas and Linda
Mossman of Bloomfield Hills, Terry A.
and Susan Mossman of Las Vegas,
Robert and Marilyn Mossman of
Huntington Woods; daughter and son-
in-law, Sarah and Ery Wolk of
Birmingham; grandchildren, Jill
Portnoy, Jane Portnoy, Brook and Paul
Wolf, Carlos Mossman, Jake Mossman,
Wendy Mossman, Carrie Mossan;
brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and
Jean Frankel of Bloomfield Hills; sister-
in-law, Annette Wunder. She was the
beloved wife of the late Ben Mossman.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be direct-
ed to Jewish Association for Residential
Care and Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit. Arrangements by
Ira Kaufman Chapel.

SOFYA ONGEYBERG, 72, of
Southfield, died Nov. 4.
She is survived by her husband,
Arkadiy Ongeyberg; mother, Mera
Polyakovsky; son and daughter-in-law,
Dmitry and Irina Ongeyberg of Israel;
daughter and son-in-law, Irina and
Dmitry Zager of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Inna Zager, Valirie Zager,
Eli Ongeyberg.
Interment at Hebrew Memorial Park.
Arrangements by Hebrew Memorial
Chapel.

NANCYDALE ROTH, former
Detroiter of Longboat Key, Fla., died
Nov. 5.
She is survived by her four children
and six grandchildren.
A private memorial service was held.
