A Daughter Deserves
Same Respect As A Son

could intermarry and decide
not to raise his children as

not the case, it is time that
Jewish daughters be treated
the same as Jewish sons. We

Dear Wendy:
My entire family flew in
two years ago for the brit of
our son. I am six months'
pregnant with our second
child, a daughter. My parents
and siblings already have
informed me that they don't
plan to come in for the nam-
ing. I say that stinks. What
do you say?

Dear Wendy:
My husband does not want me to
nurse our baby in public. We have two
other children and if I don't nurse in
public, I will be home all day with my
baby and my other two children
would get short shrift. Is there some
kind of compromise to be found?

— To Nurse Or Not
Is your husband's concern one of eti-
quette or of personal property?
Succinctly put, are they your breasts or
his private possessions?
If you were still nursing after your
child's teeth had come in and he was
old enough to ask for the breast by
name, your husband might have a
point. The same holds if you are
attending a black-tie dinner at the
White House, a fund-raiser, a school

infant in public is perfectly acceptable.
There are ways to discreetly cover
yourself with a blanket, cloth diaper or
sweater. Demonstrate these "positions"
for your husband and reassure him that
you do not flaunt, or even expose, your
breasts in public while nursing. Sorry to
have to be the one to inform you that
you are married to someone who has not

above family would endorse nursing a
son in public but not a daughter?) ❑
