Detroit Times, Detroit Free Press and

Joe's 72 now, and has been writing
about sports for 55 years ... covering
40 world series, 15 super bowls, 20
Kentucky Derbys, 25 Indy 500s, 20
Masters and countless U.S. Open Golf
tourneys, Rose Bowls, Stanley Cups,
NBA championships, Final Four tour-
naments and many thousands of
major league baseball games.
He is also author of the fine book,
50 Years of Sports Writing (And I Still
Can't Tell the Difference Between a
Slider and a Curve).
Joe will be given the Alvin Foon
Memorial Award, presented for out-
standing contributions to sports and
athletics in the State of Michigan ... at
this year's 16th Annual Michigan
Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Induction
Dinner.

squash champion; Paul Groffs , one-
time captain of the University of
Michigan basketball team; and
Bernard Kohn, former swimming All-
