Fall Programs
The Institute for Retired
Professionals will host its Fall
Mini Series on five consecutive
Fridays at the Jewish
Community Center in Oak
Park. There is no admission
charge for the programs.
The morning sessions, from
10:30 a.m. to noon, have the
theme "Examining the New
Economy." Topics and speakers
will be:
• Oct. 6, "Globalization of Trade
(Pro)," Fred Pearson, director,
Center for Peace and Conflict
Studies, Wayne State University,
Detroit;
• Oct. 13, "Globalization of
Trade (Con)," Dr. Pao-Yo Chou,
professor of economics,
Marygrove College, Detroit;
• Oct. 20, "Technology and the
Global Economy," Fred
Gluckson, IRP member whose
career was in computer system
engineering;
• Oct. 27, "Technology Meets
Globalization (A Key to Israel's
Future)," Julius Harwood, IRP
member and former director,
Material Services, Ford Motor
Co., Dearborn;
• Nov. 3, "An Analysis of the
Democratic and Republican
Positions on Foreign Trade,"
Fred Pearson.
Afternoon sessions run from
1-2:30 p.m. and focus on
"Exploring Music, Dance, Film
and the Visual Arts." Topics and
speakers will be:

Dance," Carol Halsted, chair,

• Oct. 13, "No Killing Anymore

World," Dr. Poonan Arora, chair,
Film Department, University of
Michigan-Dearborn;
• Oct. 27, "Open Rehearsal in
Preparation for a Mozart
Festival," pianist Pauline Martin
and two string musicians;
• Nov. 3, "Jazz in Music,"
Professor Matt Michaels, director
of ja77 studies, Department of
Music, Wayne State University.

hold its annual special gifts
luncheon 11:45 a.m.
Thursday, Nov. 2, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
JWI's "Woman of
Achievement" this year will be
Irene Rodman.
Esther Applebaum and
Lucy Gersten are co-chairs of
the event. Charlotte Edelheit
and Ida Nathan are luncheon
chairs. Committee members
include Barbara Coden,
Elaine Meyers and Ruthe
Goldstein.
Minimum contribution is
$100, with a $25 luncheon
charge. Funds raised benefit
emotionally disturbed chil-
dren at the Residential
Treatment Center in Israel,
which is supported solely by
JWI.
