Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Michael Aaron Rubyan will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
on Saturday, Sept.
16, at Congregation
Beth Ahm. Michael
is the son of
Deborah and Ara
Rubyan and the
brother of Esther.
He is the grandson
of Sara and
Maxwell Nadis,
Arsha Rubyan and
the late R.P. Rubyan. He is also the
great-grandson of Belle Nadis.
Michael is an eighth-grade honor
student at Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington
Hills, where he is a member of the
cross-country team. He has also
been president of the Beth Ahm
Kadima Chapter for the past two
years. He enjoys biking, swimming,
playing piano, writing and drawing.
Michael especially enjoys helping
others. This past year he made a
special commitment to fulfill the
mitzvah of biker cholirn (visiting the
sick) by visiting his many friends at
the Charterhouse Nursing Home.
He also enjoys volunteering at the
Michigan Animal Rescue League,
Yad Ezra and the Jewish Association
for Residential Care.

Brevoort.
Sarah's most
meaningful mitzvah
project was devel-
oping a music
library for a homeless shelter. Sarah
is a student at Walnut Creek
Middle School in West Bloomfield,
where she plays the viola in the
orchestra. She likes to read, sing in
the choir and draw.

Michael Zumberg will become a
bar mitzvah at Congregation Beth
Shalom on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Rabbi David
Nelson and Cantor
Samuel Greenbaum
will lead the ser-
vices.
Participating in
the ceremony will
be Marshall and
Cathy Zumberg
and their daughters
Rishauna and Jerrin. Proud grand-
parents are Nathan Zumberg of
Southfield and Dora Serwer of West
Palm Beach, Fla.
Michael is an honor student at
Norup Middle School in Oak Park.
He plays the trumpet in the jazz
band, plays soccer, loves ro read and
goes snowboarding or skiina in his
free time. Michael's mitzvah b pro-
jects included four visits to help at
Coalition On Temporary Shelter
(COTS) and work with Hadassah
on making dolls for pediatric use
and child care.
