I was lucky. A prostate screening detected my
cancer in time so I saw the cancer experts at the
Josephine Ford Cancer Center. There I met with
a medical oncologist, urologist and radiation
oncologist in one visit. We discussed the
treatment options that would later
save my life.

HMC Hosts
German Official

Otto Schily, Germany's minister of the
interior since 1998, will be the princi-
pal speaker at the Holocaust Memorial
Center's 16th anniversary dinner 5
p.m. Oct. 29, at
the Mariott Hotel
in Detroit's
Renaissance
Center.
Schily has served
in Germany's
Bundestag since
1983. In 1989, he
joined the Social
Otto Schily
Democratic Party.
He has been one of
Germany's more forceful voices on
behalf of the idea that the Nazi period
must never be forgotten or down-
played.
After a bombing in August that
injured a group of immigrants
(including several Jews) at a railway
station in Dusseldorf, Schily
announced that the federal govern-
ment planned to aid the regional
police in Germany's 16 states in their
efforts to combat such crimes.
Schily's address at the dinner will
focus on fighting terrorism and pro-
moting tolerance.
For dinner and ticket informa-
tion, call Selma Silverman, (248)
661-0840.
