Megan Cara (Ghana Charna). Sharing
in their happiness are proud grandpar-
ents Ellen and David Kirsch of West
Bloomfield, Mary and Tom Satawa of
Highland and kvelling great-grandpar-
ents Ethel and Seymour Shapiro of
Farmington Hills, Mimi and Al Kirsch
of New City, N.Y., and Mary Pudlo of
Dearborn. Megan Cara is named in lov-
ing memory of her maternal great-
grandmother Hilda Kirsch, her mater-
nal great-great-grandmother Jennie
Selig and her paternal great-grandmoth-
er Mary Vetowich.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Amanda Brittany Adelson will
become a bat mitzvah on Friday, Aug.
18, at Temple Israel. She is the daugh-
ter of Linda and
Andrew Adelson and
sister of Justin and
Jason. Excited are
her grandparents
Lois and Bernard
Ekelman and Iris
Kaufman as well as
great-grandmother
Matilda Adelson..
Amanda is also the granddaughter of
the late Lloyd Adelson.
As part of her mitzvah projects,
Amanda helped raise donations for the
Jewish National Fund. A home-
schooled student for academics and
fine arts, Amanda participates as a
member of the forensics team at
Birmingham Covington School. She is
a competitive figure skater and loves
reading and all water sports.

Madison Marcus will be called to the
Torah as a bat mitz-
vah on Saturday, -
Aug. 19, at
Congregation Beth
Shalom. She is the
daughter of Howard
and Zoe Marcus of
Southfield and sister
to Aaron, Cale and
Mimi Marcus.
Madison is an honor student at
Berkshire Middle School in
Birmingham. Her many interests
include baseball (Madison and her
Franklin team reached the playoff
championship games) and forensics
(she received a ribbon in the Ann
Arbor Forensics Challenge. Madison
also participates on the Berkshire
swim team and plays in the advanced
orchestra at school. She has been very
active with Beth Shalom's Kadima
youth group, where she was elected
vice president of communications.

Ashley Rebecca Silverman will be called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 19, at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. She is the
daughter of Amy and
Randy Silverman and
the sister of Harrison
and Evan. She is the
granddaughter of
Elaine Dvorkin and
Irene Silverman. She
is also the grand-
daughter of the late David Dvorkin and
the late Morley Silverman.
An honor student at Warner Middle
School in Farmington Hills, Ashley
enjoys going to the movies and interact-
ing with friends on the computer. As
part of her mitzvah project, she found it
particularly meaningful to volunteer at
Burton Ranch, a group home for
patients with closed-head injuries.

Evan Matthew Silverman will be called
to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 19, at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. He is the son
of Amy and Randy
Silverman and the
brother of Ashley and
Harrison. He is the
grandson of Elaine
Dvorkin and Irene
Silverman. He is also
the grandson of the late David Dvorkin
and the late Morley Silverman.
