July 28.

ADELE BOOKMAN, 88, of Oak
Park, died July 28. Mrs. Bookman
enjoyed classical
music and baking.
She began giving
piano lessons as a
teenager and contin-
ued teaching for
many decades. On

ed their 54th wed-

ding anniversary.
Mrs. Bookman is
survived by her husband, Elias
Bookman; sisters Martha Goodman of
Southfield, Sylvia Sachs of
Birmingham; sisters-in-law Edith
Friedman and Sarah Friedman.
She was the loving sister of the late
Jack Friedman and the late Abe
Friedman.
Interment was at Machpelah

DR. ROBERT BRAUN, 89, of
Southfield, died July 31. He was a psy-
chiatrist and graduate of the University
of Vienna Medical School. Dr. Braun
was a member of Temple Emanu-El
and was active in the Senior Group of

Michigan and the American
Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Braun is survived by his wife,
Gertrude Braun; daughter and son-in-
law, Eleanor Braun Satlow and
Michael Satlow; son and daughter-in-
law, Ronald and Laura Braun of
Farmington Hills; grandchildren,
Benjamin, Noa and Jonathan Satlow,
Jeffrey and Scott Braun.
Interment at Adat Shalom

MELVIN COHEN, 54, of Encino,
Calif, formerly of Detroit, died July
24.
Mr. Cohen is survived by his moth-
er, Annie Cohen of Waterford; sisters
and brother-in-law, Iris and Norm
Rubin of Waterford, Sandra Shear of
Encino, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-
law, Paul and Annette Cohen of
Riverside, Calif, Harvey and Judy
Cohen of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He was
the loving son of the late Louis Cohen.

DR. BENJAMIN W. DOVITZ, 94,
of Pompano Beach, Fla., died July 30.
He was first chief of urology* Sinai
Hospital and on staff at Harper, Sinai
and Beaumont hospitals. Dr. Dovitz
was a graduate of Wayne State
University Medical School and a mem-
ber of Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
Dr. Dovitz is survived by his wife,
Edith Dovitz; daughter and son-in-law,
Susan and Dr. Michael Weisenfeld of
Greensboro, N.C.; son and daughter-
.in-law, Robert and Beverly Dovitz of
Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren, Amy

IDA FENKEL, 78, of Southfield, died
July 24.
She is survived by her stepson, Jerry-
Fenkel of Oak Park; nephew, Craig
Lin. Mrs. Fenkel was the loving sister
of the late Harry Lin.

DOROTHY FINEGOLD, 90, for-
merly of Farmington Hills of Atlanta,
Ga., died July. 25.
Mrs. Finegold is survived by her
sons, Marvin and Rodney Finegold;
daughter, Arline Davis; daughters-in-
law, Kathy Finegold and Priscilla
Finegold; son-in-law, Joe Davis; grand-
children, Narrah Finegold, Paul and
David Finegold, Steven Davis and
Mark D'Agastino; great-grandchildren,
Jeremy, Shira and Alena Davis and
Mallory D'Agastino. She was the
beloved wife of the late William
Finegold.

BEVERLY GORDON, 72, of

PHILIP H. HALPER, 100, formerly
of Berkley of Jackson. He was born in
New Haven, Conn. Mr. Halper
received his bachelor of philosophy
degree from Yale University; he served
as class agent for many years and was
commended by the university presi-
dent for his fund-raising efforts.
In 1964, he earned a master's
degree form Wayne State University's
College of Liberal Arts. For a time, h
taught German at Wayne State and
English and math classes to foreign
speakers studying to take their gradu
tion equivalent degrees. He worked
for many years helping to settle
Russian Jewish immigrants in the
Detroit area.
In 1970, Mr. Halper completed
work for a bachelor of Hebrew litera-
ture at Midrasha College of Jewish
Studies. He was fluent in Hebrew,
Russian and .German.
