Westerner Beef
Buffet on Maple
Road ... Although general manager
now, the kitchen is still Bob's first love
... He still makes the highly-popular
and delicious white chili ... and on
occasion, Swedish meatballs ... Bob,
Gary and Bill work together on the
recipes and menu specialties.
Bob is far from being a stranger to
the making of chili ... He won the
North Central Regional Cook-Off five
years in 1981, '82, '84, '85 and '88 ...
Michigan State Championship in '86,
and '99 ... Canadian Championship in
'86, '97, '98 ... among other awards,
including best chili chosen by AAA in
1987 ... -His white chili is available
only on Wednesdays ... It is made
with chicken, no beef ... and Beau
Jack's goes through 12 to 15 gallons
each Wednesday that it is served.
Bill Barnes has been with Beau
Jack's the entire 25 years ... He was
previously head chef at a West Indies
Hilton before visiting here and staying.
Bob Nall started out as a cook at
Beau Jack's 20 years ago, became
kitchen manager ... and the past 15
years has been its personable night
manager.
Laura Simo was a server when Beau
Jack's opened ... and is now its bar
manager ... Karen "Curley" Reid has
been at both the Westerner and Beau
Jack's ... Patti Anderson, 11 years a
server ... Mary Barnes (no relation to
Bill), day manager and hostess 15
years ... Sister-and-brother servers,
Andrea and Bruce Shrier, were hired
together nine years ago ... Crystal
Braun, server, has been there 10 years
... and Martie Gericke, server, 13
years.
This July will be the fourth wed-
ding anniversary for Bob and Gina
Lind Nall ... She has been a hostess
and assistant manager 21 years at Beau
Jack's ... now hostess on Saturday
evenings only ... and became good
friends with Bob when he came on
board about a year after she started.
There are 13 salads on the Beau
Jack's menu, including an imported
Scottish Smoked Salmon Salad served
on chilled mixed greens with arti-
chokes, red onions, capers, tomatoes,
black olives, pears and slivered pea
pods ... Grilled Steak, Shiitake and
Feta Salad ... made with Angus beef
