MY DAUGHTER THE DOCTOR

Detroit native and Academy and Emmy
Award-winner Christine Lahti stars in an original
film version of acclaimed playwright Wendy
Wasserstein's An American Daughter, which pre-
mieres 9-11 p.m. Monday, June 5, on the
Lifetime cable network.
The political drama explores the effects of a
private life turned public, as Lyssa Dent Hughes
(Lahti), a prominent health
expert, awaits confirmation
as Surgeon General. When
an incident in her past is
revealed to a reporter, the
after-effects of media
scrutiny threaten her per-
sonal and professional lives.
According to Wasserstein,
this is a story about the
good girls who worked
hard. It's about what hap-
pens when you come up
against something where
working hard and being a
good girl isn't enough.
Lahti starred on stage as
Heidi Hollard in
Wasserstein's Pulitzer Prize-
winning play, The Heidi
Chronicles. She has also
received awards for her
work on Chicago Hope.
Also appearing are Tom Skerrit as Hughes' hus-
band and Lynne Thigpen, who reprises her Tony
Award-winning role as Hughes' best friend, Dr.
Judith Kaufman, an African-American Jewish
oncologist. Check your local listings.
