Bar/Sat Mitzvah

Cranbrook/Kingswood Middle School
in Bloomfield Hills. He enjoys in-line
skating, snowboarding, bicycling and
summer camping adventures.
His mitzvah projects included vol-
unteering at a local homeless shelter
and preparing Purim food baskets.
Perry plans to donate a portion of his
bar mitzvah money to the U.S.
Holocaust Memorial Museum in
Washington, D.C.

David Eric Karson will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Friday,
June 2, at Temple
Israel. He is the son
of Anne and
Michael Karson and
brother of Jeffrey.
Excited grandpar-
ents are Ilene and
Richard Karson,
Jeane and Dr. James
Staskowski, Laura
and Larry McDonald as well as proud
great-grandparents Rena Fishman and
Arbeulah Crone.
Attending Walnut Creek Middle
School in Walled Lake, David is
interested in playing hockey and foot-
ball and listening to music. His
favorite mitzvah project was volun-
teering at the Temple Israel Labor
Day picnic.

Lauren Marissa Kastan will be called
to the Torah as a bat
mitzvah on Saturday,
June 3, at
Congregation B'nai
Moshe. Lauren is the
daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. David Kastan
and sister of
Benjamin. Proud
grandparents are Dr.
and Mrs. Jerome Horwitz and Mr.
and Mrs. Alvin Kastan of Columbus,
Ohio. Excited great-grandfather is
Joseph Newman.
Lauren is a seventh-grade honor
student at Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington
Hills. She enjoys dancing, art, read-
ing, skiing and going to camp with
friends. Lauren's mitzvah project
included visitations to Jewish
Association for Residential Care
homes.

Sarah Elizabeth Kiperman will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, June 3, at Congregation
Beth Ahm. Sarah is the daughter of
Debbie and Herb Kiperman. Proud

Louis Kiperman.
She is also the
granddaughter of
the late Bessie
Kiperman.
Sarah is an honor
student at Abbott Middle School in
West Bloomfield. She performs in
local theater throughout metro
Detroit. Sarah enjoys acting, dancing,
singing, piano, swimming and basket-
ball.
Her most meaningful mitzvah pro-
ject involved Sarah and her friend
Rachel Matz organizing and conduct-
ing a Passover food drive and donat-
ing the food collected to Yad Ezra.

Brett Adam Manchel will celebrate
his bar mitzvah on
Saturday, June 3, at
Temple Israel. He is
. the son - of Karen
and James Manchel
and brother of
Allison. Proud are
grandparents Pearl
and Frank Manchel
and Phyllis Cheiman
as 'vvell as great-grandmother
Gertrude Levine. He is also the
grandson of the late Fred Cheiman.
Brett's mitzvah projects included
delivering Purim baskets to residents
at Fleischman Residence and volun-
teering at the Temple Israel Labor
Day picnic. An honor student at
Orchard Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield, where he plays drums in
the jazz and symphony bands, Brett
has his own band and enjoys comput-
ers, tennis and skiing.

Michael Robert Passman will become
a bar mitzvah on Saturday, June 3, at
Temple Israel. He is
the son of Patricia
and Daniel Passman
and brother of
Megan. Happy
grandparents are
Joyce and Howard
Passman and
Virginia and Stanley
Warren.
Among his mitzvah projects,
Michael's favorite was volunteering at
the Jewish Association for Residential
Care. Attending Warner Middle
School in Farmington Hills, where he
is an honor student, Michael is
involved in hockey, snowboarding
and golf.
