honor student at
Orchard Lake
Middle School in
West Bloomfield,
Jonathan is secre-
tary of the student
council and a mem-
ber of the basketball team. He also
plays baseball and golf. Jonathan's
most meaningful mitzvah experi-
ence was helping Jewish Association
for Residential Care residents. His
D'var Torah is about the impor-
tance of Zionism.
Jason Marc Turkish will be called
to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, May 27,
at Congregation
Beth Shalom. Jason
is the son of Cindy
and Bill Turkish
and the brother of
Jessica. He is the
grandson of Betty

of Dunedin, Fla.,
and the late Fay and Joseph

Jason is an honor student at
Norup Middle School in Oak Park.
His interests include computers,
woodworking and skiing.

Hannah Ada Canvasser became a
bat mitzvah
Saturday, May 6, at
Congregation Beth
David in San Luis
Obispo, Calif.
Hannah is an honor
student at Laguna
Middle School.
Her interests lie
in theater arts and
she has performed
with a western regional honors
choir, singing solo in several con-
certs. Her other interests include
swimming, art and summer camp at
Camp Interlaken JCC in Eagle
River, Wis.
Hannah is the daughter of Dr.
David and Joanne Canvasser, sister
of Rebekah, Noah and Leah, grand-
daughter of Robert and Beverly
Canvasser and Nedra Kapetansky,
all of West Bloomfield, the late Dr.
Donald Kapetansky and the great-
granddaughter of Fay Kapetansky.
Sydney Lauren Friedman will cele-
brate her bar mitzvah at Temple
Israel in Long
Beach, Calif.,
Saturday, May 27.
Sydney is the
daughter of Ellen
and David
Friedman and sister
of Sam. Proud
grandparents are
former Detroiters
Arthur and Rhoda Friedman. Her
great-uncle and aunt are Sue and
Steve Fishman of Franklin.
Sydney, a seventh grader at
Westerly School of Long Beach,
tutored a third grader in math at a
local elementary school as her mitz-
vah project this year. She plays
piano and is active in soccer.
Her family attends Camp
Michigania family camp each sum-
mer. Sydney also enjoys Camp
Tanuga, where she has been a
camper for the past five years.
Avrahom Moshe White of
Canarsie, N.Y., was called to the
Torah at Congregation Shaarey
Shomayim in Oak Park on April 22
when his family came to Oak Park
for Pesach.
His other bar mitzvah events will
take place May 23, Lag b'Omer, in
Brooklyn, N.Y.
Avrahom is the son of Rabbi
Asher and Henna White, formerly
of Oak Park. Grandparents are
Lawrence and Shirley White of Oak
Park and Doreen Perlman of South
Africa.
Avrahom is'a seventh grader at
the Lubavitch yeshiva in Crown
Heights. He loves sports and learn-
ing.
