ALASKVS PRIZED salmon, rarely
seen in restaurants in the Midwest, is
being showcased at Chuck Muer restau-
rants through June 24 ... According to
those in the know, Copper River
salmon, like Sockeye salmon, stands out
for its size, meaty quality, oil content
and overall rich, full flavor.
"It is the finest-eating fish in the
ocean," says Jim Blake, corporate chef
for Chuck Muer Restaurants.
"The salmon stop eating when they
go from salt water to fresh water.
Therefore, all the energy to go 150
miles upstream and from sea level to
2,200 feet above sea level is stored in
the 'fat' of the fish. The fat is the good
Omega 3 oils that help reduce blood
serum cholesterol. The salmon are the
most prized fish in Alaska."
MARK DOWN the date ... June
26, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. ... That's when
Guys 'N Gals in West Bloomfield's

clothing drive for the homeless in
Oakland County.
Jeans, clean and without holes, are
taken in trade for a new pair at half
the retail price ... Other clothing, plus
bedding, small furniture, toys, etc., are
also accepted for the needy folks with-
out homes.
"Most people forget about the
homeless during the warm months,"
says Lois Levenson, co-sponsor with
Julie Feldman and Shari Levinson
Stay, "which is why we hold this bene-
fit during June, when helping the
homeless is so important."
Last year, more than 500 pairs of
jeans, plus hundreds of other articles of
clothing, was collected by Guys 'N Gals.
