community activist Ella Sharp died in
1912, she left her farmhouse estate and
800 acres to the city ofJackson.
Everyone was shocked; she kept it a big
secret, says Heather Price, who now
works for the results of Sharp's generos-
ity: The Ella Sharp Museum. Made up
of several small historic buildings, a
modern exhibit building plus Ella's
house, the complex today would make
Ella, who grew up in Jackson and lived
a life that served others, proud. "This is
one of Jackson's great gems," says
Kristina Jones of the Jackson
Convention and Visitors Bureau. A
park, 18-hole golf course, Ella's
Granary restaurant, a gift shop and
three children's discovery areas also add
to the intriguing complex. The exhibit,
"Sunlight and Shadow: American
Impressionism," runs through June 18
and is the only one of its kind coming
to the state of Michigan, says Jones.

The American Museum of Magic,

tures a collection of magical goods

tle girls play with in 1866? If they
were Dutch and lived in the Holland,
Mich. area it most certainly was an
Amsterdam dollhouse. Take a peek at

Dutch heritage artifacts at both muse-
urns. When done museum-ing, enjoy
the town's many galleries and gift bou-
tiques and then sample some Dutch
pea soup at Queen's Inn, the only
Dutch cuisine restaurant in town. ri
