Dr. Aaron Milstone, son of

Lathrup Village, is the newly
appointed director of the lung
transplant program at the Mayo
Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Judy Robinson, a kindergarten
teacher in Detroit, was selected as
one of 52 teachers in the nation to
participate in a federal grant through
the University of Northern Iowa,
which will help pre-school teachers
use technology effectively in their
classrooms. Robinson was selected
based on her use of technology and
her recent Multi-media award. A
video of her teaching practices will be
posted on the UNI Web site.

Arlene Gorbaty, an elementary school
teacher for 31 years in Hamtramck,
has received a grant from Wayne
County RESA for development of her
techniques in teaching reading
through music. She also was honored
when Hamtramck Mayor Gary Zych
visited her classroom to award one of
her students the top prize in a city-
wide essay contest about the impor-
tance of studying ethnic traditions.
Jon Schwarz of the Michigan Daily
at the University of Michigan, was
one of three college journalists to
win a Michigan Anti-Defamation
League Campus Journalism Award,
"for demonstrating excellence in
published reporting and commen-
tary in the field of intergroup rela-
tions." He took third place for his
piece, "Proportionality or
Equality?"
Julie Frohlich, mathematics teacher
at Troy Athens High School, has
been selected as one
of 50 teachers
nationally to tour
Japanese schools and
industry for two
weeks in June; this is
a merit-based award

Frohlich
Toyota International
Teacher Program.
Hadassah Sets Installation
The Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah will hold its installation
dinner at 6:30
p.m. Tuesday,
May 16, at
Temple Beth El.
Officers to
be installed are:
president,
Elaine Sturman;
treasurer, Ellen
Rothenberg;
recording secre-
tary, Deena
Lockman;
Elaine Sturman
immediate past
president,
Beverly Apel; vice presidents,
Barbara Moretsky, Patty Moss,
Shirley Robbins, Judi Schram, Susan
Luria and Marcia Bednarsh.
The theme of the installation is
family. Elaine Sturman will be
installed by her mother, Jean Rosen,
and her daughters, Julie Frank and
Marci Sturman. Other officers will
be installed by family groups.
Cantors Stephen Dubov and Lori
Corrsin and cantorial soloist Marci
Shulman will provide a musical
interlude. Hadassah community-ser-
vice-programs will be highlighted.
Cindy Alter and Sharon Fishman
are co-chairs for the event.
Committee members include Audrey
Sobel, Jamie Carrick and Marlene
Goodman.
