Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Michael Adam Coden celebrated his
bar mitzvah on Saturday, April 1,
with the
Workmen's
Circle/Arbeter
Ring. Friends and
family joined
Michael, his par-
ents, Ron and
Renee Coden, and
his sister Casey and
brother David at
the simcha.
Proud grandparents are Evelyn
and Hyman Sipher, Maurice Coden
and Beverly and Jack Worpell.
Participating in the program were
Sunday school students singing as a
chorus to honor Michael, led by
music teacher Esther Freeman and
accompanied by pianist David
Rodgers. Jan Adler, shule director,
officiated; and Karen Rosenstein,
field director, brought greetings from
Workmen's Circle locally and
nationally.
Michael's bar mitzvah presenta-
tion was titled "Hank Greenberg,
New York to the Big Leagues." For
the Yiddish component, he recited a
poem about Greenberg that was
composed by newspaper writer
Edgar Guest. He also delighted his
guests with the words, in Yiddish, to
the song "Take Me Out to the
Ballgame" ("Nem Mir Aroys Tsu
Dem Pilkeshpiel"). Mary Koretz was
Michael's Yiddish tutor.
Michael is a seventh-grader at
Norup Middle School in Oak Park.
His interests include bowling, base-
ball and tennis. He plays the piano
and the coronet. Michael has partici-
pated in a variety of mitzvah pro-
jects. He made sandwiches for Oak
Park seniors and prepared food bas-
kets for Focus:Hope. He has been
active in Woodstrivers, a youth orga-
nization that does community work
in the metropolitan area. Through
this group, Michael baked cookies
for the homeless, sang at nursing
homes and helped out at many
Huntington Woods special events.

Stacy Brooke Indig, daughter of
Karin and Harry Indig, will celebrate
her bat mitzvah at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek on Saturday, April 15.
Her brother David will participate in
the ceremony. Proud grandparents
Irving and Nita Barit and Golda
Indig will share in the occasion.
Stacy is the granddaughter of the late
Benti Indig.
