Life Fund Cites
Mr. Berkowitz

The Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit recently
announced that
Alfred
Berkowitz, a
supporter of
education in
both Jewish
and general
communities,
left $250,000
in his will to
Federation,
which has cre-
Alfred Berkowitz
ated the Alfred
Berkowitz
Jewish Life Fund for education ini-
tiatives.
The fund will be part of the
Hermelin-Davidson Center for
Congregation Excellence, established
by the Federation/United Jewish
Foundation Millennium Campaign
for Detroit's Jewish Future.
Mr. Berkowitz, who never mar-
ried, gave away millions before his
death. After World War II, he joined
his father in Michigan Bag and
Barrel Co. in Detroit and, in 1951,
founded Enterprise Industrial Sales.
A longtime contributor to
Federation's Annual Campaign, he
established several funds with
Federation, including one that per-
manently endows the campaign and
others that provide scholarships and
educational opportunities in
Michigan and in Israel.
