ALTHEA FLAYER, 91, of Southfield,
died April 8.
Mrs. Flayer was the beloved wife of
the late David Flayer. Interment at Beth
El Memorial Park.

DAVID LEIB KORETZ, 91, of Oak
Park, died April 4. He was a taxi cab
driver.
Mr. Koretz is survived by his brother
and sister-in-law, Joseph and Shirley
Koretz of Farmington Hills; niece,
Nancy Koretz of Farmington Hills.

DR. ROBERT KORNBLUM, 63, of
Menham, N.J., died April 6. Born in
Antwerp, Belgium, Dr. Komblum grew
up on Manhattan's Upper West Side,
received his high school education at the
Horace Mann School, Riverdale, N.Y.,
and his undergraduate degree from
Columbia University, where he was
named to the Dean's List. Dr.
Kornblum received his medical degree
from Downstate Medical Center,
Brooklyn and completed a pediatric res-
idency at Bronx Municipal Hospital of

Einstein College, where he was also
chief resident.
He served as a pediatrician at Seoul
Military Hospital in Korea. During his
military service, he received a Certificate
of Achievement from the Eighth United
States Army in 1967, as well as an
award from Watson. Army Hospital,
Fort Dix, N.J.
Following his discharge from the
military, Dr. Kornblum settled in
Mendham, N.J. He established a
pediatric practice with offices in
Mendham and Chester, with special-
ization in developmental pediatrics
and school health.
During the three decades he was
active in practice, he significantly
impacted the lives of several genera-
tions of Morris County residents. Dr.
Kornblum was instrumental in start-
ing the pediatric residency program in
the Department of Pediatrics at
Morristown Memorial Hospital. He
was an attending physician in the
department as well as the acting chair-
man at one time. He also held an
appointment as clinical assistant pro-
fessor of Pediatrics at Columbia
University College of Physicians and
Surgeons. He served as school physi-
cian for Chester, N.J., Mendham
Township and Westmont Montessori
School in Mendham. He also was
medical consultant to several Morris
County school child study teams.
Dr. Kornblum initiated well-baby
care and guidance programs at
Morristown's Neighborhood House as
well as the School Health Program for
the Morris School District. During his
career, he lectured and published on
issues of diagnosis and childcare.
Dr. Kornblum was a Fellow of the
American Academy of Pediatrics and a
diplomate of the American Board of
Pediatrics. He belonged to the Morris
County Medical Society, the Medical
Society of New Jersey, and the
Norwest New Jersey Pediatric Society.
Morristown Memorial Hospital's
Department of Pediatrics recently
honored Dr. Kornblum for his life-
time contributions to the Department
and to his specialty.
Additionally, Dr. and Mrs. David
Knoop of Mendham endowed the nam-
ing of the elevator lobby of the hospital's
new Children's Medical Center for him.
Dr. Kornblum was an accom-
plished pianist and fluent in French
and Hebrew. He was also a member
of the Morristown Jewish Center of
Beit Israel of Morristown, N.J.
Dr. Komblum is survived by his wife,
Dr. Hannah Kornblum; their daughter,
Tamar, both of Mendham; daughters,
