nurses the patients love to have
around because of her caring for their
welfare.
Much, too, can be said for fine gals
like Angela Newing, late night nurse,
whose efficiency never wavers ... and
nurses Gloria Spytko and Jill
Grossman.
Service may differ in other sectors
at Evergreen ... The region of Robin,
Sante Fe and Angela, etc. is called
Hickory Grove.
Same old story, though ...
Especially among the aides ... Not
enough help at Evergreen ... The
shortage is sorely felt with fine aides
like Michelle Puriefoy, Barbara
Anthony and others being asked to do
much above their share.
Dr. Donald Garfield, podiatrist son
of Sonya and Sol Garfield, comes to
Evergreen Health & Living every
Monday ... but is also noted for his
work as a "spotter" ... At the request
of restaurants, Don brings his family
... and then gives the eatery a report
on the food, service and whatever else
he sees.
The physical and occupational
therapy services at Evergreen are prob-
ably among the finest of their kind
anywhere ... The very dedicated peo-
ple in both phases are centered on the
constant improvement and well-being
of patients ... Some who come in
looking forlorn at not being able to
move their muscles ... glow with hap-
piness when daily therapy promotes
miracles ... Little smiles amid their
own tears of joy are enough to make
one cry ... -Listless people who give
themselves absolutely no chance of
ever walking again ... after perhaps
having a stroke ... shake their heads in
wonderment as they lean on walkers
while walking ... slowly but surely.
On another side of the coin, it is
sometimes called "The Evergreen
Therapy Social Club" ... with so many
knowing each other ... and looking
forward to daily visits with the fine
therapists.
Excellent therapists like Jo Axiak,
Raymond Lim, Vincy Davis and oth-
erS ... plus occupational therapists ...
deserve all the raves they get for liter-
ally putting patients back on their feet
again ... Patient Pat Lee happily gave
back in another form ... with back
massages from her wheelchair to
Vincy Davis. Reconstructive therapy
in the room and hall continues with
smiling and helpful Robert Ancira, a
big favorite ...
He and maintenance guru, Bob
Rice, came to Evergreen a short while
after it opened less than three years

1886 MICHIGAN CENTRAL
RAILROAD DEPOT

e Gandy Dancer is a fully refurbished
1886 railroad station once heralded as "the

finest station between Buffalo and Chicago."

The decor is definitely appropriate to this
historical landmark, with stained glass
windows, red oak ceilings, the original

baggage scale and magnificent granite walls.
An added touch are the daily passings of
the Amtrak train just a few feet from the
picture glass windows of the track-side

dining room. For the past 28 years, The
Gandy Dancer has enjoyed a reputation with

locals and tourists alike for serving the area's
finest seafood, fresh fish (never less than a
dozen offerings flown in daily from both
the East and West Coasts) rack of lamb,
aged beef and
homemade pastas.

And if you are a
"sweets lover"

the homemade
desserts, pastries
and ice creams
are a must.
