Tracy (Tortora) and Brian Brod of
Royal Oak are delighted to announce
the birth of their son, Ben Harrison
(Ephriam Rafael). Proud and excited
grandparents are Millie and Peter
Samardak of Bethel, Conn.; Chuck and
Sherry Tortora of Holland, Mich.; and
Miles and Adele Brod of Oak Park.
Ben's great-grandparents are Rose
Michelson of Southfield and Raymond
and Pat Tortora of Palm Springs, Calif.
Ben is named in loving memory of his
great-grandfathers Harry Michelson
and Ralph Brod.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Elana Rachel Ackerman will be called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Friday,
Feb. 4, at Temple Beth
El. She is the daughter
of Sharyl and Alan
Ackerman and sister of
Matthew and Daniel.

great-grandmother is Gertrude Levine.
Elana is the granddaughter of the late
Irving Ackerman.
Elana is an honor student at Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in
Farmington Hills. She enjoys reading,
writing, dancing and acting. She is the
creator and editor of an online maga-
zine. Elana's mitzvah projects included
volunteering at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek's Camp Berman and volunteer-
ing at Yad Ezra.
David Isaac Chudnow will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday,
Feb. 5, at Congregation Shaarey Z,edek
B'nai Israel. He is the son of Edward
and Frances Chudnow and brother to
Benjamin and Daniel. Proud grandpar-
ents are Manny and
Toby Chudnow. He is
also the grandson of
the late Theodore and
Helen Levine.
David is an honor
student at Orchard
Lake Middle School in
West Bloomfield,
where he is a cellist and in the school
choir. He enjoys snow skiing, swim-
ming, going to Camp Ramah and par-
ticipating in Kadima activities. Of the
many mitzvah projects David participat-
ed in, his most memorable are working
at Yad Ezra and visiting with the seniors
at Danto Family Health Care Center.
Steven Andrew Garelik will celebrate
his bar mitzvah at
Temple Israel on
aturday, Feb. 5. He is
the son of Kathy and
Robert Garelik and
brother of Evan.

A Farmington Hills O.E. Dunckel
Middle School student, Steven is a sec-
ond-degree black belt in choi kwang do
and likes to in-line skate, collect hockey -
cards and work on the computer.
Mitzvah projects included volunteering
at Yad Ezra, assisting at the Temple
Israel Labor Day picnic and donating
to the American Diabetes Association
by participating in a walkathon.
Kasie Michelle Gorosh will become a
bat mitzvah at Temple Israel on Friday,
Feb. 4. She is the
daughter of Rhona
and Alan Gorosh and
grandchild of Marilyn
and Mel Barnett and
Norma Gorosh.
Excited great-grandfa-
ther is Julius
Spielberg. She is also
the granddaughter of
the late Lawrence Gorosh.
An honor student at West Hills
Middle School in Bloomfield Hills,
where she is on the tennis and swim-
ming teams and is active in student
government, Kasie. is interested in com-
puters, music, jazz and tap dancing,
drama, writing and forensics. Among
her mitzvah projects, she volunteered at
Yad Ezra, assisted at the Temple Israel
Labor Day picnic and donated to
Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces.
She was also involved in making court
boxes for children involved in custody
disputes.

the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
Feb. 5, at Temple Beth
El. She is the daughter
