Ms. Kushmar was the loving daugh-

GERTRUDE PALMER, 80, of
Farmington Hills, died Dec. 13. Mrs.
Palmer was a life time member of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek and a
past member of Sheruth League.

Farmington Hills and Debora Palmer;
granddaughter Mara Marcus.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Max Stuart Palmer.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park

MARCIA M. SALLAN, 86, of Beverly

Hills, died Dec. 8.

She is survived by her son, Gerald
Sallan of Greenfield, Iowa; nieces and
nephews.

JACK SCHECHTER, 88, of Oak

Park, died Dec. 13.
He is survived by his daughters and
sons-in-law, Shirley and Malcolm
Simon of Oak Park, Marsha and
Harold Baker of Farmington Hills,
Harriet and Dennis Friedman-Grodin
of Birmingham; grandchildren Eddie
Simon, Howard Simon, Brian and Lisa
Greenstein, Michelle Greenstein, Lisa
Friedman, Scott Friedman; great-
grandchild Jarett.
Mr. Schechter was the beloved hus-
band of the late Lillian Schechter.

JEANETTE SERLING, 92, of Oak

Park, died Dec. 12.
Mrs. Serling was honored in 1998
with an Eight Over 80 award for her
volunteer fund raising activities for
children. At that
time she said, "I
never worked to be
recognized or
thanked. I just want-
ed to do it."
During World
War II, she raised
$23,000 to smuggle
Jeanette Serling
Jewish children out
of Nazi-occupied
Poland. An ardent Zionist, she was a
founder and president of Pioneer
Women (Na'amat USA). She was
named a woman of valor by Na'amat
and Israel Bonds.
An active member of Congregation
Beth shalom, she annually presents the
Jeanette Serling scholarship to an out-
standing student of the religious
school.
She is survived by her friend, Albert
Gordon; a sister-in-law; nieces and
nephews; cousins and friends.
Mrs. Serling was the beloved wife of
the late Israel Serling.
