Conference

at Yeshivat Akiva in
Richard Lavoie-
Southfield.
Featured is
nationally known speaker Richard
Lavoie, executive director of Riverview
School in Massachusetts, a private
school for children with learning disabil-
ities. Lavoie's talk to day school educa-
tors, from 1-4 p.m., is "Batteries Not
Included: Motivatino the Reluctant
Learner." He will speak

parents, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., on
"Happy Healthy Family." Parents are
asked to RSVP to their child's school.

ference, which is sponsored by the Jay
M. and Dorothy S. Rosenthal Teacher

One hundred and forty Jewish fami-
lies will receive kosher Thanksgiving
food baskets this year, thanks to the
generosity of the Jeannette and Harry
Goldberg family and Jewish Family
Service volunteers.
For each of the past 18 years, the
Goldbergs have collected money from
friends and family toward the purchase
of Thanksgiving food packages. The
food is dropped off at the Yad Ezra
kosher food bank in Oak Park and dis-
tributed on a designated day before the
holiday, this year on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
JFS, a licensed outpatient clinic with
offices in Southfield and West
Bloomfield, provides social and mental
health services to adults, children and
families.
