HERMAN J. BLOOM, 84, of West
Bloomfield, died Nov. 4. Mr. Bloom
1 was an attorney and residential
builder. He was a 1935 graduate of
the University of Michigan and a
1937 graduate of the University of
Michigan Law School. During World
War II, he was a U.S. Navy second
lieutenant. He was also a member of
Temple Beth El.
Mr. Bloom is survived by his wife of
56 years, Betty Lichtig Bloom; daughter
and son-in-law, Harriet and Michael
Jacobson of West Bloomfield; son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. William and
Beverly Bloom of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Matthew Jacobson and
Jason Bloom; brothers and sisters-in-
l aw, Murray and Carol Bloom of West
Bloomfield, Dr. Jerry and Joan Bloom
of Bloomfield Hills, Eddie and Esta

SHAY FOREMAN, 92, of Ft. Myers,
Fla., died Nov. 7. As an optician in
Detroit, he was the creator between
1940-1945 of the first invisible-line
bi-focal lens. He was also an entrepre-
neur in furs, shoes and weight-reduc-
tion salons.
He served as an advisor to the
Army for 10 years in the field of pre-
cision optics, specifically prism design
for bomb-sights and navigation. He
performed in vaudeville as a violinist
and had his own orchestra in the
Detroit area in the 1930s.
Mr. Foreman was a member of the
Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, Habitat
for Humanity and the Detroit
Masonic Lodge. He was an active
contributor to Israel Bonds and a
strong supporter of Israel.
He is survived by his wife,
Catherine Foreman; son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Dennis and Sondra
Foreman of New York; daughter and
son-in-law, Arlene Foreman and
George Black of Florida; grandson,
Brett Foreman; brother and sister-in-
law, Leonard and Mimi Foreman of
California. He was the beloved hus-
band of the late Lucille Atkins.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
