THE NEW NOKIA 8860 PHONE IS A SEAMLESS BLEND OF
ART, DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY. SMALL ENOUGH TO BE
DISCREET, YET STYLISH ENOUGH TO BE NOTICED. IT'S
THE SMALL PHONE THAT MAKES QUITE A STATEMENT.
THE NOKIA 8860, PEOPLE WILL TALK.

hul-shopping! Newcomer, or
native Detroiter, Shabbat after
Shabbat, you wear out your
shoes looking for a spiritual
home for your family. Now you can
put your feet up, rev up the computer,
and click on to many of Detroit's
Jewish houses of
worship. First
stop: www.shir-
shalom.org,
homepage of
Temple Shir
Shalom in West
Bloomfield.
Is that
"Hatikvah" play-
ing as the home-
page loads?
What a nice,
homey touch,
forgive the pun.
From here, you
can peruse the
proverbial "mis-
sion statement,
and learn the
names of the
12
staff and clergy.
But do go on
and click "Our
Temple" for a beautiful tour of the
building facilities, room by room and
complete with color photographs. A
map from Mapquest is provided to
help you navigate the building.
Back to the homepage to check on
the Calendar. "Chanukah, 0
Chanukah" plays, but oops! L'shana
Tova to you, too, but it's been more
than a month since Sept. 25, Sukkot,
the last event listed on the page. (In
checking around, it seems that the site
hasn't been updated since June.)
The button marked "Location"
seems to offer the same information as

"Our Temple," but here's something
interesting: an "Ask the Rabbi Virtual
Tisch" chat room. There's a note
promising details about guest hosts,
but no information to date.
The suggestion given is that surfers
should contact people they want to
chat with, coordinate a time, and
meet in the chat room, which can
accommodate up to 25 participants.

To use the room, type in your
nickname and click "Connect." Like
with all chat rooms, you hope that
others will be around so you won't
have to talk to yourself" Access is
also provided to the rabbis' e-mail,
just in case you prefer a more pri-
vate communication.
The final two buttons, "Education"
and "Links" are noted as "Coming
Soon." Still, for melody and color, this
is an attractive Web site, and one that
probably will motivate many foot-
weary shul shoppers to take a second
look. 1-1
