does almost all the cooking ... stuffed
cabbage, stuffed peppers, stuffed
tomatoes, beef tenderloin tips and so
much more.
Effie's lamb stew, with chunks of
meat, green beans and rice, is a deli-
cious favorite ... As are her homemade
mashed potatoes ... Effie's chicken
salad is considered among the best
anywhere.
On Fridays and Saturdays, her
grilled lamb chops are always sell-outs.
The very popular Greek and ranch
dressings served at all the Honey Tree
restaurants are both made at the
Walled Lake operation ... Delicatessen
(corned beef, etc.) is only at Walled
Lake and Novi.
Effie's chicken parmesan with mari-
nara, and spaghetti with marinara, are
other favorites ... She makes those
hashed browns, too ... And the bakla-
va served there is created at the Walled
Lake site.
Spinach lasagna and spinach pastit-
sio, served only at the Walled Lake
Honey Tree and made by Effie, are
very high on the list of popular dishes
by her.
Family dining at the Walled Lake
spot seems to take on added dimen-
sion with the 14-oz. N.Y. sirloin steak,
$9.95; 16-oz. Porterhouse steak,
$11.95, etc. ... Also stir-fries, seafood,
Italian dishes, coneys, burgers, six sal-
ads, six gyros (including vegetarian
and chicken) and a lot more items.
A children's menu has seven items
for youngsters under 12, and includes
French fries, and soft drink or milk.
Honey Tree at Walled Lake is open
Sundays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to
9 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 8 to 10
... for breakfast, lunch and dinner ...
Tom has been in this country since
1971, hard at work building his
Honey Tree restaurants into good fam-
ily operations ... but also finding time
to play his biggest love in sports ... soc-
cer ... at which Tom is most proficient.
He likes to erect things, also ... and
for the past six years has been building
homes, too ... Five are presently under
construction on 13 Mile, west of
Drake, in Farmington Hills ... It's sort
of a throwback to his days as a child in
the little town north of Athens, where
Tom played with little rocks ... making
from them whatever he could think of.
A most noteworthy ... and impor-
tant ... factor is maintained at Honey
Tree in Walled Lake ... Instead of
toothpicks inserted to keep the gyro
sandwiches together ... which I have
always maintained can be so danger-
ous ... they are wrapped in tin foil ...
The pita is easily pushed up as eaten.
